You get the second jobs when you get your first esper right? I can’t remember when that is.

Nothing too crazy strategy wise going on right now, not deep enough in the game to start doing a million buffs and I am having a hard time finding the right gambits for silence and immobolize.

i love this game

Yeah, it is like 10-ish hours in, so not too far, really.

Just got the Sage Ring, so now Penelo is just making buffs rain all over everyone like she just hit the MP lottery.

Sorry for the uncompressed photos taken on my phone as screenshots

I remember this spice shop in PS2 FFXII as the first time I thought “Oh god, a videogame doesn’t need -that- much detail”
Note that the fans blow at different speeds

I wish the game showed how the people of Ranabastre go from the lower to the higher city. Anyway, there’s some sort of windmill in this room you’ll never notice if you don’t look up

FFXII’s approach to architecture is to never have any flat surfaces ever

We all know that FFXII looks lovely but it has the classic cardinal flaw of having ridiculously impractical and dangerous stairs. Humans would have trouble climbing this, let alone small moogles or short- legged seeqs

Did you know that you can take a tourist spaceship from city to city and explore it? It’s very impractical, but you can buy teleport stones, relax in the lounge, and do one sidequest about talking to 6 sisters, scattered across the 6 airlines, who are courted by six creeps (who are also brothers?)

I should play this game

Don’t forget that there is like a 1 in 256 chance that a chest with a legendary weapon inside will spawn on the lookout deck above each time you take a ride. This game.

Also just going to repost what wrote in the Weird RPG Mechanics thread:
(like how bow weapons become far less effective if it’s raining)

Another quirky thing are the Knots of Rust you find randomly throughout the game. All you can do with these is throw them at enemies to do random damage based on your own HP. Nothing really fancy. Each time you do however the damage dealt gets added to a hidden pool that is saved behind the curtain. Another significantly rarer item that you can find in the late-game is Dark Matter. Similarly to Knot of Rust you just throw it to deal damage to the enemy but the damage dealt is equal to this hidden pool of damage that you’ve been building up unknowingly by throwing the Knots of Rust, even breaking the 9999 damage limit if you’ve built up enough. This makes Dark Matter potentially one of the most damaging things in the game. After you’ve used a a Dark Matter the damage pool is reset back to 0 again and you have to build it up from scratch.
The in-game description for both these items with this incredible potential and unexpected synergy?: “Deals damage to foe.”

One of the game’s summons is even able to cast spells that are basically enhanced Knots of Rust and has an ultimate spell which is a powered up Dark Matter. Again, never explained.

some kids figured out how to manipulate the rng to always spawn that invisible chest & always get the seitengreit

The Seitengrat is a “cheat/broken” weapon anyway and not really expected to be really used. It doesn’t even have an in-game graphic! I guess it would come in handy gainst the megabosses though.

Interesting. Which one? Do their attacks change this hidden counter?

Damn I love this game. People shit on the poach mechanic but man is it nice to just not worry about chaining for loot when you don’t need to level any more. Underrated mechanic.

Got the second job boards.
Vaan - Red Battlemage / Foebreaker
Balthier - Monk / Ulhan
Fran - Machinest / Time Battlemage
Basch - Knight / Shikari
Asche - Black Mage / Archer
Panello - Bushi / White Mage

Numerology is one of the wacky skills that I think I found in a chest. Starts at 1 and doubles each time. It’s completely impractical but it saves its count in between saves and what not so you can get it up to the juicy numbers and then use it on a particularly difficult mob as it is aoe. Is this the last Final Fantasy with weird stuff like this? I don’t remember FF13 having anything weird/unique like this and I didn’t play enough FF15.

This one:

and turns out I was wrong. The two spells work EXACTLY as Knot of Rust and Dark Matter. They even use the same damage pool.

What the hell

Can we get “three korok seeds” as your title?

Well shit. In the original release I loved Fran’s accent but hated the quality. That they kept the compression makes me sad. Not like I would ever play this game again. I got JP- FFXV over here.

not sure my ego can handle a Zelda related title

woah what i never knew there was a fishing minigame

how did i miss this

What’s hilarious is that they talked about rerecording the voices for this one, so apparently they did the compression bullshit AGAIN, ugh.

I am still loving this game and holy shit the fast forward button is lovely.

They ended up not rerecording the voices

summons are still useless

i summoned belias for a boss and the rest of my party disappeared, then the boss just targeted the character who summoned, character had no healing abilities and potion spam couldn’t keep up with the damage, so then they died and the summon disappeared without doing much of anything.

why couldn’t they have made it so the rest of the party hangs around now?

back to never using summons i guess

Belias can heal you, but you have to manually command him to do that, which is annoying as shit, and of course you can’t just reprogram his gambits because that would only make sense. But yeah, just having the rest of the party there would make life OK. Shit swap out the caster for the summon and leave everyone else there. I think the only reason summons aren’t as useless for me is that I have my Tank summon, and even then, I still have to have the summon heal him.

So hilariously, about 30 levels into the game, Machinist turned into a badass. I partnered him with Monk, which was my other IDEK class in terms of who should be it, which got him all sorts of damage buffs, which combined with guns ignoring defense means he is pretty reliably near the top in terms of damage. This was funny to find out.

Yeah, I kinda figured that as a possibility, though I also knew that even voice recording done recently in the US (Persona 5) has weird compression problems, so I couldn’t tell if that was the same. But that makes sad sense.

were the breaks always this good? i stacked wither a few times on yiazmat and it was hitting my dudes for like… 60 damage
