The White Stripes and Jack White in general

I’ve been thinking a lot about how much influence Jack White’s music has had on my general music tastes.

Here’s some YouTube links to kick this off.

Ive always felt bad for not being more tuned into them.

I just realized today happens to be the anniversary of the one time I hung out with Jim Diamond though.

Their cover of Conquest rocks

I saw the White Stripes live at an arena show once and I will always remember it for having the worst fucking crowd I’ve ever seen. Couple kids up there playing their heart out to real life rock & roll and these motherfuckers just sitting in their seats with their arms crossed

Still think Meg’s drumming is dodgy as fuck, soz.

If you ever play a White Stripes song on Rock Band the drummer gets so bored. Especially The Hardest Button to Button.

Jack is a better drummer than her. He plays drums in The Dead Weather.

Speaking as a drummer: incredibly wrong. Meg’s behind the beat feel is what makes Jack’s lo fi riffs thump. Jack backed by a normal band gets you the Raconteurs: boring as hell

In retrospect, I felt bad that I missed the time in 2001 that they played at the OSU spring concert thing, but I think I wasn’t on campus that weekend.

And yeah, Meg’s drumming was way more important to that band sounding like they did than people (aside from Jack, who has regulalrly insisted such) seem to get.

How much do you think I could sell a sealed Lazaretto vinyl for, it’s the one with the hologram

i don’t think i’ve heard anything before white blood cells, but of all the Hot Indie LPs of that era, it was the one i resented the least because i’m a sucker for the arrangement conceit

haven’t made up my mind about white’s conversion to gear merchandiser
i’d quite like to try the troika pedal but i’m quite sure the the panoverb amp isn’t very well made, per all contemporary fender amps

It’s not just the gear thing. I kinda want to go wat h people record in that booth of his. Heck, I’d like to maybe

For completeness sake, he’s 15 year old me missing the train at the station, walking off one song into their first ever outdoor show in 1997 to go watch a punk band and eat a hot dog across the street.

And right after I posted that and got out of my car to get lunch, I looked over and realized this was mocking my 15 year old taste

I loved The White Stripes back in the day and still do. Jack White I haven’t kept up with as much post White Stripes but I like what I hear when I hear it.

But none of it compares to bangers like The Big 3, Hello Operator, Ball and Biscuit, Little Cream Soda, etc.

Jack White backed by a full band does sound different in a slightly worse way. The White Stripes was an attempt at strict minimalism musically so each element of guitar/drums/vocals had to really be able to stand on its own or the song just didn’t work. You don’t really get that layering more people/sounds into the mix.

This is one of the coolest, stupidest things he made when it comes to gear and recording tech

I had a roommate that spent about a month singing the Jolene cover in her room
