I admit I was a little taken aback when I started playing Days Gone and found out I could New Game+ immediately upon completing the first mission in the game.

okay, I didn’t know that the players were up to demanding Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter-style progressive runs systems

Glad to hear that the slow motion mode from Uncharted 4 returns here. This time it’s in the accessibility options menu instead of being an unlockable cheat mode. It was really fun to use in Uncharted so anyone playing this one should check it out. Bask in all that indulgent animation.

Speaking of systems that make you dread the labour cost. I’m not sure it was really worth making every enemy have a name. It starts to sound really awkward and weird that everyone is constantly making each other’s names known and that no two people have the same name given how many you kill.

Daria, she’s over there!
Jason push forward!
I’m right behind you Tzipporah!
I’m reloading Susie-Marie!

It reminds me of Splinter Cell Conviction where every NPC knows Sam Fisher’s full name and uses it liberally to taunt him. Every time.

This shouldn’t have been a lot of extra work, vocal concatenation tech is very good if you know what you’re doing.

I guess I’m wondering if the names are picked randomly according to a set of rules or if every enemy has been named ā€˜by hand’ and had unique dialogue and VA assigned. The VA blends together except for the names which stand out for me, so it’s very possible you’re right.

Killed about 3 Charlottes and 2 Judys. I don’t remember the first one having such naked emotional manipulation, felt like Spec Ops The Line but at least that had the burning Burj Khalifa tower image with glitchy Bjork playing. A lot of the time I was just saying ā€œbut they didn’t earn thisā€ at whatever I was supposed to have feelings about.

The ending is very MGS4-y with the fist deathmatch and many moments where I was saying ā€œok it’s ending now, right?ā€

That should be a trivial difference in workload because the system would need to work regardless of any name combinations – it’s just the difference in the level designers picking the names themselves or letting them get rolled. At the least, I’m sure they sometimes pre-set the names for moments that transition into cinematics and have extra dialogue referencing specific names.

That makes sense. I think the implementation should just be tweaked to be a little less frequent.

It sounds distracting from everything I’ve heard, I’m surprised they whiff into something so goofy

This is not TLOU2’s fault in any way but when the final blow was dealt to Joel, a PS4 update for Granblue Fantasy Versus burst on to the scene.

splinter cell conviction is humanity’s greatest achievement in terms of writing the most overwrought combat barks possible. i will never forget having tom clancy man growl ā€œyou’re going to die on your knees, fisher, like a SCIENTISTā€ at me before i shot him in the dick

I’m gonna be ā€œthat guyā€ and post a penny arcade.

I’m sorry, okay?

Also this ipad autocorrected ā€œpenny arcadeā€ to ā€œpansy arcadeā€ at first and I did consider just leaving it. So there was that, at least.

omg this reminds me of how standing on the roof of a moving car in saints row 1 would make the driver inexplicably scream and curse nonstop while flooring it into oncoming traffic

there was a video of the witcher 3 i posted on my old twitter where i walked up to a group of peasant npcs standing in the middle of the road and they all just started screaming and yelling and eventually disappeared

Goddammit Jesse. Why did you have to show up with your Uncharted car-jacking setpiece and unlimited ammo pistol.

The NPC name-shouting stuff is getting distractingly absurd and I don’t think I’m even halfway in. One NPC talked to their dog in a sort of ā€˜there’s a good boy’ voice during combat.

I really wanna know what proportion of the general population aren’t dog people. I feel like an alien amidst these dog moments. So many NPC dogs, dog notes and dog pictures.
