Seann William Scott is Shaggy, glasses girl is Velma, this girl is Daphne

Still waiting on the inevitable animal mascot character (the Scooby) that will still be telling you how to play the game 20 hours after you’ve already figured all of this shit out on your own.

We are Fred.

if… on Switch SNES Online.

So, I have finished Nocturne. It’s an exceptional game if one enjoys labyrinth, repetition (to solve them), pokemon.

It’s a visionary game and, even if its dynamics are not something I’d play for fun, I can admire it from afar. The aesthetics, the parable, the landscapes are all fantastic.
I aimed directly from the true ending, but I can imagine how great it can be, if one has a lot of time to lose, to play totally blindly, do a couple of “reason” ending and then discover, deep in the secrets of Amala, how it was supposed to end.

I went to fight Lucifer totally blindly, and it was a surprise to see my Belzebuth be totally useless (lacking Pierce), and use my Metatron just a suporting character because of the same reason. Raidou, with its special moves (active and passive), was the superstar of the fight.

I think people should play SMT3 “blind” (that is, don’t use a walkthrough to try to get a certain ending) because I think it’s a lot more fun to see what Reason you fall into vs specifically going out of your way to try for a True Demon ending or something.

Disappointed that we don’t refer to the protagonist of Strange Journey as “Stranger”, and also just realizing this second that the placeholder name Atlus USA was using for the U.S. screenshots was probably intended to also be a Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure reference on top of a Simpsons reference. The update version of Strange Journey should’ve been called Bogus Journey.

We have a St. Elmin one too, from the last game.

Also, don’t know if I ever posted this here, but the screenshots Atlus USA used for the Revelations: Persona ads and flyers used an earlier version of the localization because Mark, Nate, and Yuki are referred to as Sean, Mat, and Tammi.

Some Nocturne thoughts:

  • Nocturne makes you feel weak and ignorant at the beginning of the game and makes you desperately look for Yoko for help, for like half the game. When you do find her, you realize she’s pathetic and helpless, but you don’t really care anymore, because the old world feels so far away and the new world has already shaped you (like it has shaped Chiaki and Isamu)
This metaphor about looking up to older adults as a teen / young adult is frequent in JRPGs but used a lot more harshly (and subtly) than usual here: instead of putting the Hero on a pedestal early on, then putting you on the same pedestal later, it tells you you were a fool for putting anyone on a pedestal in the first place

  • I’ve played Nocturne like 10 times and I still underestimate Matador because of his low HP!
I had to grind a Hua Po from scratch because he’s impossible on hard mode without Raku + Sukukaja

  • I’m going through the fame without going anywhere near the labyrinth of amala this time. Playing that way, it’s apparent that the Maniacs edition hurt Vanilla Nocturne’s balance: Matador and to a lesser extent Raidou/Dante force you to master the game too early and the labyrinth gives you too many extra levels, so the midgame from the assembly of Nihilo on gets a little too boring. Playing without the labyrinth, I found both the assembly of Nihilo and Kabukicho Prison much more exciting than usual

  • The lightning inside the prison and the entirety of the assembly of Nihilo look sooo good especially in HD. Even the sewer dungeon looks great

Weird project and aesthetic

lol that flash UI

that’s like a beautiful encapsulated explanation of why i love SMT3’s vibe so much.

i’m irked that the only option for buying SMT5 on day one is a steelbook. i can’t stand those things. I just want a regular case that fits on the shelf with the rest of my switch games.

EDIT:

with MH Rise, the steelbook was actually included as a separate thing, and the game just came in a normal case. Don’t know that this is what it is going to be with SMTV, but there is hope at least.

yeah, that’s what all recent ones i’ve ended up with have been. although it’s usually been ps4, so i assumed it was just so they could throw them in for xbox or ps4, without having to check what discs in each etc. idk if switch is different.
