@miffy knows plenty about this game though, she is going to be doing all the hard work this week, she’s probably gonna make a big ol’ effort post all about the rules and what app we’ll be using and such while I just sit back, relax, and sip on a nice cold Bachelor’s An*me Girlfriend while all the Twitch affiliate riches roll on in.

Things will be more organized this week than last. Poll closes on Friday. We’re going to assign a time for everyone to play. I believe games take about half an hour each. If we have enough of a response we MAYBE do a tournament where multiple games run simultaneously, and us commentators will dip in and out as it strikes our fancy.

Or we may just end up doing a lottery to determine who gets to play! Who knows. It’s all about my fancy, and what strikes it. You’re ok with that, right?

SHOULD I EXPLAIN THE BEAUTIFUL GAME FORMAT?

YES

I am the host. It’s a live stream, on https://twitch.tv/bachelorsoft

I sit here, in my chair, and I watch people play competitive games, and sometimes I actually say a few words about what’s going on in those games.

I am joined by a co-host. Last week it was @slime! This week it will be @miffy. Heck, maybe it’ll be both of them? We’ll see! They do most of the work.

You, dear reader, can be a player. We will play a different game every week! And if you’re a player you fight other players from our community! You will not have to speak on stream during your fights. You can do a post-fight interview, if you’re comfortable with such a thing. You can share your thoughts and feelings about the match. Maybe tell a joke or two if you got 'em, or none if you don’t. Maybe share your social media info in hopes of getting famous. I won’t stop you! But bottom line: all that’s expected of a player is play. The rest is all optional.

Also, sweet lurker, you can be a caller. You can join my Discord, and at certain times during the broadcast you can join a voice chat channel, and say a few words about whatever’s on your mind, as long as it isn’t about hairy balls, or how Australians are all drunks who shouldn’t be allowed to drive. I don’t tolerate such talk! But almost anything else, sure, it’s probably okay. We had a lot of fun talking to friends both new and old on our first broadcast! We hope to have much more fun in the future.

Here’s the first broadcast, by the way. It may give you a vague idea of what things are like. I’m sure future events will be much more streamlined, and fun, and free of anti-Australian bias.

hi it’s me miffy i will edit this post in the morning with more info but we will be playing ~goat format~ instead of normal yucky-oh

goat format is basically yucky-oh as it was in 2005, it’s called goat format because this card was really good. it’s a lot more approachable than the modern game and there are a lot of worthwhile things about it that have kept people interested in it for a really long time. please play yucky-oh with me i promise it’s fun and not boring

the simulator we’ll be using is called ygopro percy, you can download if from their discord server. as a disclaimer i have never in my life sent or read a message in that server outside of the download and faq channels so like, i can’t vouch for the discord itself but the app is trustworthy

goatformat.com has a lot of good resources to help explain what goat format is and how to play it, including example decklists and guides, the forbidden and limited list for the format, and a handy google sheet that lists the entire card pool. i highly recommend that everyone who wants to play at least reads the what is goat format section of the website, and if you want any more resources or information beyond just that then that website is probably the best place to get it. please feel free to bring whatever deck you want, whether you want to be totally serious about it or just want to roleplay a character from the anime and call in to the stream and laugh maniacally or whatever, but if you don’t know what to play then probably just playing goat control or one of the other decks the website has articles and decklists for is a great idea

ygopro percy supports goat format, meaning it has all of the old cards and rules and rulings built in as an option. when you open the app and go to the deck editor under “decks,” you can select the ban list in the top left under the “ban list” drop down menu. if you pick “2005.4 GOAT,” it will mark all of the forbidden and limited cards for you, and if you select “allowed” under the “limit” drop down box in the top right it will make it so that only cards that are legal in goat format show up in the search bar. hopefully that helps people navigate the app, if anyone needs more help with it i can update this post with pics and stuff. it’s not the prettiest computer program but it’s functional and easy to navigate once you familiarize yourself with it

i’ll provide instructions closer to saturday about like how to actually connect to each other and what options to pick when you host the game and everything, but until then if you want to play with anyone to prepare or test your deck or whatever and need help just let me know! you can also test hands right in the editor and there’s an ai function that i think the discord has instructions on how to use. the app is more or less based on the various yugioh videogames that have been released over the years, so if youve played any of them it should be pretty easy to figure it all out, but please let me know if there’s like any questions you can’t find an answer to

if you need to learn how to play yugioh or just need a refresher i’m available to help!! if anyone is interested i think i’m going to do like a little screen share duel academy thingy in the discord wednesday or thursday, i can also like try to type out a google doc to help people or just find some videos maybe. please let me know if any of that is something you’d be interested in!!!

Even though Wake in Fright was directed by a Canadian and its screenwriter was a white Jamaican, and it probably makes Australians look as bad as possible, the book it was based on was written by an Australian. It is a horror story tailor-made for my personal psychology. I don’t know exactly what my point is. um…how accurate is Wake in Fright exactly and should I never go to Australia?
