Tea

yeah I’ve checked and a minute after boil = 205 F, pour that into a cup and it’s 190, that’s about good for oolong I think
I should probably warm the cup with a rinse but I don’t.

today = white2tea Hot Brandy (2017-19 sometime I think). it’s a blend of black and white tea. tea soup is appropriately bourbon colored. I tried hard not to oversteep it (1min at 205) and I think it worked out pretty good

back to Fancy Grade Tieguanyin today, autumn 2019… love a good green oolong… has that light sweetness and little bit vegetal

someday want to try the “duck shit aroma” but it’s pricey. highly rated on steepster

When the price to steep is too steep.

I like oolongs with water about 10 F cooler.

My loose rubrick is:

black tea 200 F
pu-erh 195 F
oolong 180 F
ch green 170 F
jp green 165 F

I’m perhaps unrealistically neurotic about water temps and I hardly drink tea lately but I thought I’d share

got my white2tea order today:
2018 Waffles
2019 Dangerfield
2007 Repave
along with a mini (7g serving) of 2022 Dangerfield

the 2022 dangerfield - it’s so strange, for a pu’erh it has this light subtle and liquory sweetness that i havent had before. looking forward to having the 2019

idk anything about their sourcing practices but white2tea really has the tea vendor side of things down. great marketing, packaging, copy, slick website

I went to a gongfu tea place in DC and now I want to get the whole setup for myself. Most importantly, I want a tea pet. Does anyone know a good source for them?

this time I got a ‘green’ oolong with standard nondairy creamer (the guy at the counter recommended it over the “fresh milk” alternative) and salted milk foam, honey tapioca, lowest sweet level, and low ice

but I don’t necessarily have a go to, I guess

what about you?

That sounds delightful. My order changes depending on the place and how much of a dessert I want to make it. Some places have highly specific orders that I cannot turn down. Moge Tee’s taro tofu pudding milk tea is an example.

Otherwise, oolong milk tea with brown sugar boba is almost always solid. A cold jasmine or green tea with herbal jelly is another favorite.

damn. maybe I’ll have to give this a try. they have a location within walking distance of home but tbh I went once a couple years ago and was disappointed in whatever basic thing I got.

I get my tea from Wing Hop Fung and they have Pee Boy and Pigsy. I used to work for one of their tea shops a long time ago, I think they’re all right. Idk much about their sourcing or anything anymore, but $3 for a small peeing boy/pig isn’t bad

Music City Tea has some nice tea pets. I have the color changing dragon. It’s way cooler than I expected but be warned, it’s kind of huge.

Never was a big fan of teas growing up but I guess I’m finally old enough to appreciate them with the right fixings. Now I’ve gotten in to the habit of brew kombucha out of discount teas I find at discount stores with the 50+ pouches. Starting to think it might be more economic to buy loose leaf in bulk to start making big batches.

For real hot tea drinking I’m kind of a weirdo and like the spicy stuff. Whatever Republic of Teas has going on in the Get Burning Tea I like but I’d like it a little spicier.
