It’s hard for me to imagine this as anything other than a compromised Dreams, which is already compromised by being stuck on the Playstation. And there are so many ways to “Nintendo” this idea into the ground.
Even though Microsoft and Sony have tried this several times and failed the orders-of-magnitude more revenue Roblox is generating next to their efforts will probably inspire a few more rounds of this, to be foiled again and again by a too-tight grip on sharing and control
I don’t think user-generated-content apps will ever work on a closed platform
Uh, why would i want to make games with this when I could spend 3 years writing obscure libraries in a Scheme dialect with the eventual vague intent of making a game?
I think it looks like it could be fun. These things are always compromised by trying 2 split the difference between “fun game” & “educational tool” while pretending they dont notice that their “open platform for hobbyists” is locked behind 3 purchases & 2 app stores. (RIP Kodu Game Lab )
Nintendo ensuring any sort of sharing is an emotionally strenuous ordeal makes it more interesting to me in that it puts more weight on its function as a game rather than as a collaborative tool. I enjoyed fiddling around w/ the VR Labo stuff so if this just exists as a thing that lets me break their games in ways that make me giggle…im not against it.
e: just saw the store page says there’s only 7 games included…i take back my beliefs & statements
I get all the skepticism but also everyone loves WarioWare DIY and Mario Maker was a neat space and at only $30 I think we could see some really neat and unusual creativity from kids if the tools are robust and friendly enough.
space crew is not as good as bomber crew unfortunately
it feels more fiddly than bomber crew in a bad way, bomber crew manages to strike that balance between micromanaging and abject terror while you watch the fighter you’ve targeted keep its health bar even though your turret spent 10 seconds firing at it
space crew has the same dynamic but the addition of ship invasions and having to deal with picking things up and transporting them makes things way too hectic for my tastes
There’s about half a second worth of lag between menus appearing and being able to interact with them and it’s driving me so nuts that I’d refund this if I could
Glad I didn’t buy the bundle!!
You can choose the Famicom soundtrack but it’s fucking loud and drowns out the VA even after adjusting individual volume levels. Also it is kinda annoying and does not suit the new art style (which I’m not a fan of but it’s not the worst; think a mystery game that doesn’t seem to have any black in its palette is a kinda bad idea!!)
Protagonist has amnesia and theres always a Remember option in the menus and so far whenever I click it he goes ”hmm…I kinda don’t remember anything”
These are my thoughts on the game i played for 20 minutes, that i bought cuz I had too many troubles trying to emulate Portopia and JB Harold, that I will continue to play even though this lag is driving me fucking nuts cuz I gotta justify the money I just spent fuuuuck
At some point I’m probably going to get irrationally angry about an anachronism in this remake of a 1988 game set in 1988
The cursor is way too slow and now I’m thinking this Portopia template with all the Looking and Asking and Remembering is not to my tastes, I played JB Harold for like 10 minutes the other night and it’s all about questioning folks and collecting evidence, I don’t think there are any pixel hunts, I think I want the hardcore detective shit…though maybe at some point Bachi Delight (my protagonist) will get hit on the head with a coconut and regain his memory and then this game will be awesome
