The levels selected are put in rotation, the warp zones will display the order from right to left. I prefer the special event for that reason too, I even avoid koopa troopas when I have star power. The shell can be a useful tool for getting time quickly and killing bowser.
I personally like how long some of the matches get, it’s only frustrating when the internet connection I’ve been using drops me.
The Hard Mode SMB thing wasn’t really working for me when I rented Lost Levels way back when. But maybe I’d appreciate it now.
And yeah, I got a kick out of seeing monsters using the spring boards. Bouncing off of monsters feels a lot more SMW, but maybe it’s just my bad memory.
Bouncing off enemies feels like it does in Mario Maker, I love it, I haven’t played World in a while. I believe Mario has less control of acceleration while in the air and his max speed is lower than in the original, the physics feel like an improvement however they really work.
i think NOA/E was absolutely correct in not bringing SMB2j to the West when it originally released (because i do think it would have flopped, at that time), but i also think it’s an excellent game if you’re someone who has developed Mario skills.
when i first played it, i think i had some Mario skills, but after playing it, i had a whole lot more than i started with. the game forces you to really grapple with its mechanics and physics, whereas SMB1, i am like 99% sure you could complete without ever having to hold down the run button.
I don’t mean to downplay 2j, I even like it more than 3, but for this reason I personally wouldn’t ever recommend it. The trampoline level, the hook jump to a pipe in 8-4, world 9 being chill and the ez wall/pipe clips are great stuff
The one way scrolling of smb1 and 2j is still my favorite. I think it would be hilarious for there to be a trampoline level like that with SMW’s camera though.
Aside from the save area music and associated hangoutitude factor, the Pikmin 2 piklopedia, simulating a biology textbook/explorer journal written by the characters, and its music were probably my favorite bits of that game. They wrote up a new iteration for the rerelease of 3 but the music probably won’t be coming along. I liked throwing carrots into the little terrarium habitats for these guys.
This shows some Urbosa, Zelda, Link, and Impa combat alongside some map and menu gameplay.
Urbosa and Impa combat looks cool. Link combat looks psychotic.
If I’m understanding this correctly, story and side missions show up on the Hyrule map in a somewhat un-linear fashion. There are also material collection tasks that appear on the map with associated rewards and narrative text.
There’s a smithy on the map, but its services are accessed through a menu overlaying some location-specific artwork. No sign of free roaming in towns or stables so far.
