Journey to Silius and Crystalis!

I must’ve been.

Crystalis is already part of that excellent SNK collection, but I’m all for more folks getting exposed to it.

NES controllers are half off until Jan. 10.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom is half off too, at least in my region

That game is a super polished, pretty generic search-action. It’s enjoyable comfort food but it’s not super special. If you want to just zone out with a pleasant Metroidvania then it’s good for that!

what happened to these anyway, i thought one might be a nice xmas gift for someone but they’re like £140, surely they weren’t that much originally? were they discontinued?

Yeah Nintendo only made a certain supply of them and said no more after that.

A game of the year declaration from Digital Foundry of course has a bias toward technical achievement, but this game looks way more interesting than its trailer led me to believe.

Have any of you played it?

I’m skeptical of Digital Foundry’s recommendation for the same reason you are, and their rundown of that studio’s previous games didn’t inspire much confidence, but this thing does look super cute. I’m intrigued!

I really like Fast RMX, but I don’t know about their other games.

any exclusives i really need to pick up asap on this thing then

my partner has bought me botw as an early xmas gift so i guess i am obligated to give it another go, hopefully will be less sour on it when i don’t have to wait for shader cache compilation

also have an 8bitdo dongle on the way, anyone tried this on pc? seems like a better solution than ds4win or whatever to run a ds4 on pc

I’ve used the bluetooth dongle they sell with ports for gamecube controllers and wii dongles, allowing you to connect them to your PC. It’s very reliable. I used it to play roms with the NES Classic’s controller.

I like John Linneman videos, but his focus is certainly more on video games as a technology vs. video games as uh games.

His opinions on games are very inflated if there’s something impressive about the engineering, which goes double for older games.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen him particularly critical of a game unless it’s marred with technical issues too, so it’s hard to get a gauge on what his recommendations mean exactly. His tastes seem to skew to the more obscure or innovative games. He seemed to really enjoy Death Stranding, fwiw (although that game is also technically very impressive).

df stuff doesn’t seem particularly thorough, i don’t think i’ve ever seen gameplay from further than like the first hour of a game they’ve covered and they were raving about the vanquish pc port on launch and didn’t notice that it was one of those logic tied to fps situations and everything did double damage until a patch

Yeah I agree with you completely. I shared that video for its overview of the game rather than the game-of-the-year claim. I already knew that this game is a puzzle adventure with a charming and quite beautiful art style. But I didn’t realise that it’s also an open exploration game without much in the way of hints. I think that’s noteworthy.

I’ve exhausted my time/energy/monetary budget for new games this year, but I might pick this one up in January.

the 8bitdo adapter + a ds4 works beautifully, even the giro works

I have no idea what any of these 10 Switch games are but you can can get one free per day from December 15th through 24th. There are two catches:

  • Before December 15th, you must already own a game published by Qubic Games. (Coloring Book is already free and apparently counts toward this.)
  • Each game is free for only one day, and you must claim one game per day in sequence. If you skip a day, then you lose out on claiming any more of the games on subsequent days.

Complicated!
