STUNLOCK THE PRESSES: combo breaking news (Part 1)

basically the only good thing about the cross media bar is:

  • makes a good first impression
  • unambiguous usage with a d-pad

everything else about it blows. categories don’t make sense, icons “minimal” to the point where they aren’t easily distinguishable or recognizable, and things you need to access frequently still take way too much navigation/button presses to get to. things you don’t need to get regularly take even more button presses and are never where you think they should be

amazingly these problems are all dramatically exacerbated in retroarch

basically consoles have to have complex interfaces and cross media bar tries to simplify this and make it look “elegant” and “minimal” and all this does is hide information and make it extremely frustrating and confusing to use. this approach is almost a shortcut to circumvent putting actual thought into your interface. honestly will take the 360’s ugly-ass blades interface over xmb, I will take the weird, shittier version they released with the xbox 360 lite or whatever over it, I will take literally every weird shitty UI nintendo has made over the xmb. I just… really hate it.

Announced last month, but I found about this today. Looks like it has some cool ideas!

What do we even call this absolutely pitiless conglomeration of popular culture, dropped like an atom bomb into what should be an area of meaning? Marvelfication, or something?

a Ubisoft trailer

(I think they often try gimmicks like this and it never works)

Have you seen the gameplay though

ooh yeah it looks bad.

for some reason when i started the trailer, the first thing i thought is it would be cool if there was like a game based on those bugs bunny cartoons where he is in ancient greece for some reason, it could look kind of like that except fun and cool

(I originally posted this as a reply to cuba’s post in the other thread??? how did that happen)

That magic vertical spear attack looks so shitty. Why would that go in the trailer?

this looks like a videogame you’d see in a cereal commercial or something. I kept waiting for the gorgon to be like going after a bowl of froot loops.

Ironically they showed off a long gameplay trailer before this, and I’m guessing that announcement trailer was made by a team with a bunch of assets and no context, because that spear attack is the middle attack of your basic attack combo.

Someone took some footage of Super Nintendo World and while everyone who wants to go to Star Wars Land or Marvel Land or Harry Potter Land or whatever is obviously a baby with bad taste, it’s actually really cool of me to want to go here.

Edit: Better footage, with night time effects.

First theme park attraction to leverage third-party IP for paid DLC can’t wait.

Annoyingly, it’s only out on PS4 tomorrow. The PC version comes out on the 29th. I’m enough of a degenerate that I might buy both, to have it available on my TV or at my desk.

I know this is a week or whatever old, but I can’t get over how they named their game after a fluffy little animal with a bizarrely anthropomorphic face, then made the player character like a fuckin red panda or something with a dumb cartoon face. Just, why? Play as a more or less realistic lion tamarin with a gun would be so good.

I’m mad about this
