Here’s a good explanation of that paper! I totally misinterpreted this. What’s really happening is:

  1. Give a neural net a picture
  2. Now, give a neural net “semantic input” which means “what object each part of the picture is.” So blue is a car, pink is a road, green is a tree, etc.
  3. Neural net interprets the semantic input into a photorealistic picture based on the first picture it was given

The big thing this one does is remember what it made before, so it can keep making it if we return to that object. Plus it can generate the same scene from multiple viewpoints.

Basically, it’s an AI hallucinating images based on one memory and a very basic rendition of a scene, and that hallucination can be changed drastically by giving it a different memory at the beginning.

Cool premise where you deliberately cheat at cards. Wonder if you have to cheat.

vidcon season baby

now that vampire, qud, and ufo 50 have been officially delayed into next year, it might be just this and spelunky 2 I’m still excited about this year? what a relief

Where was the news about UFO50? I’ve been waiting on that for ages.

derek yu tweeted a few months ago that they decided to make a push on releasing spelunky 2 this year “instead,” the implication being that they’re waiting on that one a little longer

Ah thanks, I forgot Yu was a developer on it. I haven’t followed Spelunky news so I must’ve missed it.

you forgot Watch_d0gs /_3GI0N on your list, and i know you are just too nice to put it on there, so let me do that for you, just a sec…

I’m not precious about the specific talent working on this game, but a shakeup this great just bodes very poorly for a game I was already a little skeptical about. I just hope this isn’t just publisher meddling, as it sort of sounds. But from what you’ve seen, has that subtweeting indicated issues with the project itself or the threat of Paradox looming?

it’s definitely one of several signs this year that AA is starting to close ranks after several years of fairly interesting mid-high budget games

I had great expectations about Bloodlines, and I am a bit worried about this sudden change. But especially, I would not imagine why they would fire him

Vampire Bloodlines was not a well written game but there were some great choices made in the narrative. Firing him and replacing him with a Far Cry Asscreed writer is absolutely abysmal

The AC guy they replaced him with apparently is this dude:

The target audience for a game consultant’s website is the director level, this isn’t a good sign of his writing ability and guidelines. Similarly, I’m not exactly comfortable judging any specific person’s ability by massive personality-eating projects they were involved in. Interviews with the people pushed out (which they’ve been willing to give) will tell us more about what Paradox wants from this game.

i miss the days where game studios would hire their writers by scouting the finest bistros and cafes of paris and prague

It’s a good hint of why they fired the first guy. This website is a primal cry of “I am a team player and will involve other people in every creative decision I make”
