Street Fight Money V

On the one hand, I’m outraged, but on the other, ever since the whole Sony CD DRM scandal of the 00s, it has been commonplace for entertainment companies to install badly implemented insecure software in the name of copy protection and anti-cheat protection and nobody really ever gave a shit, so I’m not sure why now is any different

they should’ve just used denuvo if that’s how it’s gonna be

It’s probably part & parcel with all the other custom implementations Japanese studios do of widely-available tech. Jumping on Unreal Engine was a huge shift but they’re still not entirely down with a “grab the off-the-shelf because it’s cheaper, faster, and less buggy than anything we can do” mentality.

“Invasive DRM? Yeah we can implement it this weekend, no problem” is the start to many bad things

Just another reason PC Gaming sucks and is a complete fucking hassle

it doesn’t have to be this way.

it really doesn’t.

‘lol’

It’s delightful that installing an insecure backdoor without warning is a “security measure.”

more like insecurity measure, right

I guess I’m glad the game simply stopped working for me and most other PC players at all after that update. what a clusterfuck. hadn’t played in a couple months, wanted to check out Urien and I’m greeted with surprise broken DRM and a non-functioning game. pretty great way to retain a player base.

i restarted a couple times and it magically worked

It’s interesting to note that it didn’t run for many people precisely because their antivirus was blocking it behind the scene, as the DRM actually identified positively as a rootkit as far as many algorithms are concerned.

URIEN!!!

is cool

but why can’t his c.MK cancel :frowning:

it works for me now but they deleted all my fight money because I cheated survival for colors because fuck this game. so I don’t have urien :frowning:

how good is urien? seeing some dope dope combos and stuff with him

oh to be that foley guy

SFV=Rootkit…
da fuq.
Honestly the first time I’ve ever uninstalled a AAA game for security reasons.

So what are the numbers on active playerbase for this game atm

Question for the Street Fighter 14 veterans. Was that game less reliant on frame data knowledge? I’m getting to the point in SFV where I don’t forsee success unless I’ve memorized the frame data of each specific character in order to know what’s punishable, etc.

Seems like SFIV was more about mind games and mixups and overall feel during battle. SFV is becoming a bit like homework at the moment.

sf4 was hella frame data focused at higher levels, especially setting up option select shenanigans and vortexes

part of the ‘problem’ of it having a billion characters was it was impossible to memorize all of them

i knew a ton of sf4’s framedata just by virtue of being invested in the game for so long, but i really don’t think it was as crucial to success as it seems to be in 5. knowing when the opponent’s “turn” is over is a big deal in 5 for controlling momentum in a game that has such high damage output and frequency of stuns. a lot of mid-level strategy relies on exploiting this (take that as a sideways answer to why bison was perceived as strong early on and has since fallen off).

prevalence of 3f buttons, relatively predictable frame data based on button strength and attack type, focus attacks, shoryu fadc etc meant there were a lot of universal answers to offense even if you didn’t know the ins and outs of your opponents’ options. i think character and matchup knowledge is much more important now
