everybody seems to recommend these filters for 2d stuff, what about for like ps1 era 3d. is there any reason they wouldn’t be good for that too, is there some other preferred filter for that etc
I use them on PSX, N64 stuff too. It looks real good sitting on top of the PSX’s lovely native dithering patterns. If you’re in Retroarch it’s actually more difficult to switch your shader setup than leaving it alone.
I’ve been going back and forth on upscaling or not Dreamcast/PS2/GC games. Something like F-Zero GX is amazing at max res but a lot of the PS2 Tokyoscapes look better fuzzier.
Yeah I pre-ordered one of these today as well. Can’t wait for the store to tell me whoops we sold them all before you got here and you can only get your deposit back as store credit or whatever.
I tried out the Phantasy Star 2 one on Android and the emulation was terrible. Sound was off, framerate is wonky, everything felt wrong.
I think they are fine for both 2D and 3D, as far as these things go; I was more questioning whether current mobile devices would have the have the horsepower to run them and also render 3D stuff at 4k.
I just asked cause I’ve seen other people specifically mention 2d games talking about them. I’ve only just recently taken the time to figure out how to get retroarch going and I’ve been thinking about getting a 2k monitor so I’ve been trying to read up on this stuff lately.
I didn’t even know this was a fucking thing and now I have to do it
I wonder why these things won’t work on the Micro.
i think i’ve sworn off resolution enhancements in general for pre-360. same with “HD textures” and other post-processing. shit almost never looks right, fucks up the vibe in a lot of games (silent hill is a good example) and is definitely not necessary even on the 4k-est of displays if you’re using integer scaling. give me native every time
scanlines are good, though, i love scanlines and many 16 bit games are poison to my eyes without them
I will make an exception for scaling for F-Zero GX because that game looks incredible at higher resolutions.
Everything else…no.
that’s actually a decent point. i’ve tried uprezzing psx and ps2 games but i always switch it back, it never looks or feels right. i’ve heard dolphin does a decent job but i play gamecube, ps2, and xbox games on native hardware so i haven’t played with it that much. hard pass with pcsx2 upscaling imo, even with games like ff12 - i just prefer the original look, personally
if i’m not mistaken, there are a select few ps2 games (and quite a few xbox games) that can actually output higher resolutions (Gran Turismo 4 can do 1080i, i think), though i’m guessing that’s just internal scaling. don’t know for sure
F-Zero AX allegedly ran at an HD resolution in the first place, so GX looking good up-resed isn’t too surprising.
Star Fox 2 team finally has its launch party
alright fine, this is pretty cute.
i should play Starfox 2 again, i guess
I was going to say the only reason im excited about this novelty thing i’ll never buy is because im so goddamn happy that it is 2017 and NoA is no longer kicking EarthBound way down in the memory hole (Mother 2 is not actually on the SFC version, fucking weird) but then i saw that picture and now it is the second reason i’m excited.
To be fair, a tiny SNES that contains a greatest hit compilation is a pretty cute novelty thing, but i can’t even justify getting it for my little bros because kids are so plugged in these days, i’m pretty sure my 13-year-old brother has a raspberry pi of 100+ emulated games on it already.
This is illegal FYI.
It is in Australia (you’re in Australia, right?) but the USA has much worse consumer protection laws than us (at the moment, anyway).
Gherkin’s from your town, I’m pretty sure!
Wait you’re from Adelaide?
Anyway it probably is illegal but I never preorder stuff so I don’t really know what the deal is or what kind of shady tricks they try to pull
Starfox 2(Aka Falco’s Revenge)
I made that up but Nintendo should use it
hi Australians, I am at a work thing in Brisbane until Saturday, is anyone near here?
