I have really been enjoying all the old character actors on tng but the episode The First Duty is so full of “hey it’s that guy from that thing” guys is actually filling me with a weird sense of despair
Like in addition to the future Tom Paris you got My Favorite Martian as Boothby the groundskeeper, Mr Lippmann as the Vulcan vice principal, and that guy Ed Lauter who has a very distinctive face and was basically in one episode of every tv show made between the 70s and 90s but isn’t really “known” for anything
The despair is because I really feel like a part of me should just know all this stuff already. And I want to know it. I crave the knowledge. But I’m afraid it’s too late to memorize that many more imdb pages. I wasted my youth. Every episode is just crawling with potential x files weirdos and Seinfeld girlfriends but I’ll never know

just finished times arrow pts 1 and 2… gotta say it is becoming a bit tiresome how every 2 part season finale / premiere just puts a different cast member in very obviously fake peril, but i really appreciated the weird, evil aliens in this one. imo the best alien concept since the megalomaniacal parasite worms from ‘conspiracy.’ could have done with a bit less mark twain. was simultaneously impressed and disappointed that, for, i think, the first time ever, their solution to the problem was just to blow up the evil aliens. i think it’s particularly disappointing bc s5 had a lot of episodes with really great premises and which introduced some even better complications to those ideas like 2/3 of the way through, and then just completely punted on giving them a satisfying resolution of any kind. too many to list! but they’re still great episodes, and, in a way the ambiguity and open endedness of the resolutions is part of the fun. so you’d hope that in a 2 part episode w a really ambitious premise they’d finally have the chance to really dig into the weirdness. so the episode ending with “let’s just blow them up and fly away as fast as we can” plays even weirder in that context
I can tell Picard almost doing borg genocide by sending them mind bending optical illusions is going to be something I think about a lot from now on

Was listening to the Eugenics Wars audiobooks and they are narrated by Giles from Buffy and it’s funny hearing him do a Bones impression but he also does EVERY accent including the wildest Mickey Rooney ass shit for a Japanese guy named Walter Takagi which he pronounces Ta-ka-jee. Real British Pantomime of Aladdin Hours, lol

I remember Walter Mosley getting removed from his gig writing on Star Trek Discovery for using the n-word in the writer’s room, but never dug into the context until now:
Mosley, who is African-American and Jewish, wrote in an op-ed for the New York Times that he had used the word while telling a story from his past. “I just told a story about a cop who explained to me, on the streets of Los Angeles, that he stopped all n—-rs in paddy neighborhoods and all paddies in n—-r neighborhoods, because they were usually up to no good,” he wrote. “I was telling a true story as I remembered it.”
He said that after that day, he received a phone call from the studio’s HR department. “A pleasant-sounding young man said, ‘Mr. Mosley, it has been reported that you used the N-word in the writers’ room.’ I replied, ‘I am the N-word in the writers’ room.’”

Absolute king shit
Anyone been reading the recent mainline and Defiant comics? They’re doing a Lore-themed crossover so I thought I’d give them a look.
Mainline title is Sisko, Defiant is Worf, they’re chasing godkillers. I took notice once I heard they were doing a Lore-themed crossover.
Started on Enterprise and I’m about five episodes in. Enjoying the adjustment period and watching something from the Bush era again. It’s not the best but I do like what they’re going for. It’s sometimes a little bit too US aerospace/military coded and “blokey” at times but I like that it’s a de-escalation of stakes and setting. So far most of the problems they’ve been dealing with are relatively ‘boring’ but it’s how they’re dealing with the problems that are slowly building up the characters. I’d say it has the cosiness of other Trek before it but hasn’t really found its feet yet.
Patiently waiting for the cast to develop a bit. It bothers me how similar Reed and Trip look, feels like a bit of a casting oversight. It is very funny to see people suddenly wearing baseball caps from time to time.
I usually let the intro music play but I don’t think I can hack the vocal passion every episode.
