Mod to add a locomotive but you don’t control it directly but rather manipulate it’s direction through stock transactions.
One truck in the game that I like looks like a train engine, the PLAD 450.
It’s based on the real-life Faun Goliath 8x8:
One of the stories in Pavane by Keith Roberts is about the operation a trackless land train, snowrunner inspiration??

Someone made a motorized Lego MAZ-537 (Zikz 605r in SnowRunner).

If anyone is curious about that Expeditions game, they’ve now added the cave area and co-op is supported on all platforms.
Additionally, it’s free for this weekend on Steam and included in GamePass on XBOX. As far as I can tell, it’s not on PlayStation’s answer to GamePass.
I might try it out this weekend to see if it’s something I’d want to play eventually when I run out of SnowRunner content.
Edit: I went through the tutorial and the first mission. I see why people complain about the UI. Even with hundreds of hours in SnowRunner, there were some very basic things I couldn’t figure out and had to look up on the Internet. Must be particularly confusing for someone who hasn’t played their other games.
I haven’t seen anything so far that makes me want to switch from SnowRunner to Expeditions, and I won’t be running out of SnowRunner content anytime soon.
Final delivery in the Don River area of Rostov Oblast. I reached 100% about 15 minutes before my power went out for 14 hours.
Mod where you hallucinate you performed the delivery.
I have the first map of michigan 100% completed so far. I like the variety in the gameplay compared to the original spintires, especially because mudrunner was basically the same game but legally distinct, but the physics are notably worse than the original especially in scout vehicles which is a shame. There’s a sticker that says “FARM GANG” on the hood of my truck.
I bought this game for an 8y/o who likes trucks but have still never played it myself
I have to wonder what warranted that punishment.
Is the game not fun? Also his laptop doesn’t have a graphics card
Asking whether it’s fun is kind of like asking whether someone is happy with his or her life. It defies a simple answer. Astro Bot is fun.
I think I mentioned earlier that my first session was multiplayer with three friends about a year ago, and not one of them has ever played the game again. I didn’t like it much myself at first, but something made me give it another try.
As my enthusiasm for it grew, I introduced several other people to it and similarly almost none of them ever played it a second time. In short, unless you’re the type who thinks Dark Souls holds your hand too much and isn’t punishing enough, you’re likely to have an unpleasant first impression.
On the other hand, it does open world and emergent gameplay better than most other games I can think of. You decide what your goals are and you can take things as fast or as slow as you want to. And while you could accurately call the game a series of logistics puzzles, there’s no actual requirement to be efficient. You can do whatever you want wherever you want with significant room for experimentation. And when you set goals and complete them, there’s a sense of accomplishment that I think is rare in video games.
You know how there were those articles a while back about how for people who don’t have the opportunity to travel, VR can be the next best thing? SnowRunner’s environments are well-realized (though this may require a graphics card) and you get to explore and become intimately familiar with its locations in a way that feels authentic and satisfying. And a journey feels like a journey in a way that most adventure games can only try to aspire to.
Would you have liked it if you were 8?
It would have been unbelievable for me when I was 8 and knew only the Atari 2600. I probably would not have been allowed to play it until 3:00 a.m. the way I sometimes do now.
You will have to report back and let us know if your gift recipient ends up liking it. I’m curious.
Figuring out some of the challenges in snowrunner would have been beyond my capabilities as an 8 year old.
How does a world with no other visible people and no other moving vehicles feel so alive?
How did I never really notice beauty in pure utility before?
