most important part of shadow generations lore, showing where big was during the events of generations
i also replayed and rebeat Sonic Adventure 2, a much tighter controlling game and more polished in some ways (definitely not all the ways) but also so much more of a horrible slog, itâs truly insane. i do not remember so much of this game being this bad. aesthetics and music however remain untouchable.
i think initially i wanted to replay the Adventures games and Heroes and finally Play Shadow the Hedgehog for the very first time before this new one came out but honestly replaying 2 was so eye opening for me that I think iâll just skip all that and play the new one lol
one big mistake sonic adventure 2 makes and no-one mentions is slowing down and stretching out the shooting stages.
i could easily play a whole game that played like gammaâs stages in sa1, but the tails/eggman stages in sa2 are so boring!
the sonic/shadow stages are so good, though. metal harbour, green forest, and white jungle especially.
How long did it take you to find the light shoes in stage 2?
the sonic & shadow levels are still very replayable, for sure. much tighter of a feel than adventure 1, which felt both faster & looser. the tails/eggman levels would probably benefit from much bigger more open levels, they honestly shouldâve been the size of the knuckles/rouge levels, which were not as annoying as i remember but still felt like a lot of wandering around aimlessly
i think overall most non sonic levels are fine in smaller doses, but the final level where you have to do every character back to back really sucks the joy from the previous experiences haha
longer than it should have
the hit rate for successful/unsuccessful in-the-moment light ring dashes was a coin flip
I got Sonic X Shadow.
My only real memories of the original are how bad the last boss is and that Door to Summer is the shop music.
Havenât got the code for Sonic Jam Sonic yet so Sonic Adventure Sonic will have to do.
Iâve played the Sonic side up to the Death Egg boss - really hitting the nostalgia with the classic 3d sonic lack of trust in anything you are trying to do. Think this might have been the first one of these I played with the boost 50/50 death button.
Will see how long I can go before trying the Shadow stuff - thatâs in the Frontiers engine? Is this meant to be a kind of Bowsers Fury thing?
i donât know exactly what they did to it, but sonic generations feels so much better to play than it did last time.
looking forward to reading through the free lore booklet, too. i thought for a second that there was also a manual in the box, but it turned out to be the usual safety pamphlet, but with a sonic cover on it. boo.
I played the first Shadow level - what a total loser Sonic is in comparison
i hate shadowâs chain of memories hub world so much
at least in frontiers you can enjoy running through a field of grass. here itâs like a hideous grey box ps3 castle
if i was a real shadow head i think iâd be mad that his little lagniappe game never approaches the spectacle of the frontiers boss fights even a little. sonic gets kellen quinn screaming over djent riffs and shadow gets a remix of radical highway with half-time drums. the psychedelic visuals are ultimately just skybox and the occasional cylindrical path
i opened a collectible box and got the music for bingo highway
put my finger on why this is annoying me where frontiers didnât â the progression leaves you with 1 challenge level at most you can skip and you have to run around to each. frontiers had enough different ways to get keys that you never had to stick with something aggravating
this is closer to generations but also flatly worse imo
the music is also either remixes or their best hollow bastion impression in the hub world which is a big step down for me from constant delight at the cyberspace and boss music in frontiers
at the same time i donât think the shadow stans clamoring for a byronic sonic game will be satisfied⌠at all?
only really recommendable to people as a bonus with generations or for people whoâve played shadowâs story in sonic 06 because this mephiles boss fight sure as shit didnât explain for the uninitiated
Yes, I completely agree on the Frontiers comparisons.
Although I thought the cyberspace levels were by and large rubbish so I do hope that the shadow levels are an iterative attempt on making them good with the understanding that there would have to be a lot less of them.
interesting to learn from geraldâs journal that the military refer to ivo robotnik as âdr. eggmanâ in their internal documents. and also that his uncle/mariaâs dad was an archaeologist and maria had a younger sister. i wonder if either of them will be mentioned in future stories
shadow generations might literally be the first sonic game where i did not find any of the bosses to be tedious
IMPOSSIBLE
i havenât dug into the shadow stuff yet but playing on steam deck the base Sonic Generations game feels like it runs perfectly. minimal load times, great graphics, and somehow the actual platforming and controls feel tighter? itâs definitely the best version of that game
