I got that Sonic racing on Steam for 50% off ($35) a few days ago during the Sonic Anniversary Sale but now they’re liquidating the console versions for $20, scream cry

The reissues are $100 each.

When the original CIB go for $25. It’s hard to imagine who these reissues are for.

Re: the new sonic carts

The 1/8 chance thing is gross.

They should have done it so the chaos lights come on as you get the emeralds. Id be legit excited to try to beat them with the full rainbow glowing out of the cart. Maybe have it flash when you go super sonic.

it’s funny that konami ass orchestra hits are so tied to the turtles that even it’s not the 80s turtles or a beat em up they throw em in there for good measure

Ooh neat

Dunno if I’d make something for this or attend it because going to LA is hell, but it’d be nice to see what people make for it

discovered today that S×W features songs from t+pazolite, Laur and USAO

sth that gives me a hard time wrapping my brain around, I’ve been listening to these artists since 2007/08ish (when you could find them on .tor-sites that covered a chunk of doujin releases that were put out for cons twice a year — i can only remember the M3-×× (two digits increasing each event/year) ones, but there was a second one … anyway, these artists became known/contributed to the tano*C universe and (fast forward 1-2 decades) they are now featured in a worldwide-available SEGA vidyagame.

Wild.

Related to Sonic, my partner wanted to watch the 90s Sonic OVA but I had my Sonic the Movie DVD and JP VHS in storage so I searched for it online and turns out the whole thing is just on YouTube lol

I think I remember there was some rights issue so they can never do a Blu-ray of it? Or was that just about the music in it?

Either way, the OVA still rules and totally holds up. Everyone is so goofy and dumb, I love how nobody takes Robotnik seriously even when he’s about to ruin the world, and he even doesn’t take himself seriously, like why did he make a tortoise and hare missile besides it being cute? I also love how bouncy and dramatic he is, constantly posing and pointing while leaning precariously on flying vehicles. The part that doesn’t hold up is that he wants to marry a teenage girl though, oops

Tails’ Eng voice where he sounds like he has a clogged nose totally works when I remember he’s supposed to be like 5-8. My partner said Sonic’s voice sounds like a white guy trying to do a Steve Urkel voice. And we both totally got sideswiped by Knuckles’s voice, I forgot he doesn’t have a deep voice in the OVA dub. When he and Sonic talked to each other, it was genuinely hard to tell them apart lol

I forgot how imaginative and cool the world setting was. Sonic lives on an abandoned island full of plane wreckage, there’s a government with a president and his daughter and like one advisor? Their whole continent is floating above the surface where there’s a post apocalyptic New York that for some reason Robotnik rules and lives alone in? Also when Metal and Sonic fight, Sonic gets knocked out and wakes up in the most beautiful and serene forest with morning dew dripping on his nose. It’s so pleasant and fun and really full of life. I can imagine how much material the OVA gave to Sonic Team when they eventually went on to make Sonic Adventure, like there’s so much material they could’ve been inspired by.

That OVA is legit great, I love it. I had the white VHS of it when I was in middle school and it felt like a precious object. I couldn’t believe how well it held up when I revisited a few years ago.

It even has some great original music that’s like a bridge between Sonic CD and Sonic Adventure’s soundtracks:

someone asked discotek about it a while back, since they’ve released blurays of sonic x, and there’s no complications or anything like that. the only problem is that the price for the license is too high
