sonic containment protocol

so, for like 80p per character, you can get bootleg sonic lego minifigs from aliexpress. but they aren’t just poor copies of official ones, as there’s a way bigger range of characters than pretty much any official sonic toyline has ever had.
there’s rare characters like tikal, infinite, and nack, and even characters of dubious canonicity like british super sonic!

here’s what i have:

uk super sonic, blaze, and infinite all came with flame fist effects, and chaos came with two water fist effects. i think the little pink teddy bear that came with cream is supposed to be cheese the chao?

i was especially impressed when i opened the knuckles minifig to find that he actually had his big spiked fists:

anyway, the uk super sonic and nack the weasel were only recently added to the listings, so it’s presumably not a dead line. looking forward to whisper, tangle, rough, tumble, starline, surge, and kit minifigs at some point in the future maybe

Weird that Sonic has two separate eyes but Knuckles has the monoeye

Neat of them to make them all tho

Watched the 1996 Sonic OVA for the first time since I was 12 last night. It holds up a lot better than I expected! It has big dumb nerdy 90’s OVA energy, which appeals. Its soundtrack is done in the style of Sonic CD’s soundtrack with lots of R&B and house music influences, and it sounds great. Some of it almost could work in a Sonic game. The action is excellent and recalls the Sonic CD intro and outro animations. This thing understands what made Genesis-era Sonic cool. Also the credits song (“Look-a-like”) has the funniest written-on-the-bus-on-the-way-to-the-studio lyrics.

Speaking of that song, I learned last night that in 2020, some random fan reached out to someone who was involved in this OVA’s production, and that person leaked the unreleased full version of Look-a-Like AND a demo version of the entire unreleased OST.

And lastly, I learned an absolutely crucial piece of lore:

THOSE ARE SONIC’S FAVORITE CLOTHES. So disappointed we never got to see him wear them.

There’s also a reconstructed OST out there that I can’t find in two seconds.

I just watched a video review of the Sonic OVA and did a double take the reviewer name-dropped “Gen’s Furry Doll Maker”, because I did a course with gen8 like 18 years ago and I’d completely forgotten that she was a pretty big wheel in the DeviantArt Sonic fan community

thinking long and hard about the idea that I think poorly of MCU fans and how they react to the films and exploring the decades of comic lore on screen and then seeing Sonic 2 without irony and laughing and smiling at all the references and realizing that I’m doing the same thing except I’m stanning a cartoon hedgehog whose lore either comes from 2 Dreamcast games or a cartoon and the long running comic adaptation of said cartoon

speaking of, how is Ken Penders taking the news that the writers killed off all the echidnas except for Knuckles

was trying to see if anyone had compared manhog and shrek before (not that I could find but it’s too obvious to not have happened before) and instead found this:

As someone that stumbled into the Sonic Hole on youtube (looking up longplays of Game Gear games) Holy Eggman how is this niche this fucking big? All these videos have like 300k views. What the bloody hell. I guess Triple Trouble is also the name of a Sonic Creepy Pasta, Rhythm Game Song??? Are you this deep Doolittle? We need to get you out. How can this be a career. (Goes to his 2004 honda acord and continues yelling with the windows up.)

I cannot imagine the drive to grind out a new sonic take >10 minutes semi-weekly

There’s essentially VH1 talking head programming for everything under the sun
