This is a tangent, but I listened to this interview while driving yesterday and thought others might enjoy it as well. While I’ve long been interested in the topic of whether the self is an “illusion,” this discussion touched on a few aspects that I’d never encountered/considered before, especially in relation to Buddhist thought.
Perhaps the most interesting new (to me) thing that the interviewee brought up is that St. Augustine basically invented the concept of free will as we know it to make sense of the Garden of Eden story.
