I guess the ranking is basically
S: that SH2 slot machine
A: 1-4 (in whatever order you prefer)
B: Shattered Memories
C: Origins
D: (what I saw of) Homecoming and Downpour
F: The Short Message

I think sam barlow’s later work is also very stupid though
I like his projects in the same way I like some movies that people often consider pretentious. I admire the ambition even if not everything “works” entirely.
I will definitely be playing Project C and Project D, whatever they are.
Don’t forget the mobile game Silent Hill Orphan, that I only know about it because someone ported it to doom (?!)
they set off the same thing in my brain as when I see a fake talking head documentary thing. fake acting, it’s double fake
If bloober fuck w/ the Kindergarten Cop textures we riot.
I hated Her Story and Telling Lies with passion but Immortality has a real sicko mindset I can’t help but respect… Barlow going from a crappy, formally misguided De Palma homage that’s deathly afraid to depict a camgirl’s sexuality to a work that shamelessly admits there’s always something fundamentally toxic and violent about the creative act has been one of the most pleasant gaming surprises of this decade. Wouldn’t mind seeing a new Silent Hill from him considering Shattered Memories also had some moments I read as shocking vulnerability
Re: SH1.11, I can’t imagine a project that could suffer more from the fact The Last of Us exists. Like I imagine they’ll absolutely have to flesh out Harry and Cheryl more and Shattered Memories already took the “trauma of father not being there” route, and every creative decision they’ll take -will- have to be in dialogue with Druckmann
Quality aside don’t know how you go from having Barry Gifford writing for you to Brandon Cronenberg, downgrade of the decade.
EDIT: Watch Perdita Durango
Woah am I the big Sam Barlow fan on the forum? Love Her Story and Immortality about as much as I can love interactive media products. It is less the overall execution more that tbe game is in my own brain and what I think the story is about and that it changes 3-4-10 times before I am done with the game. I haven’t played the between game yet but will probably enjoy it as well.
Bloober Team games have given me no such brain puzzles.
I liked Her Story a lot and loved Immortality
y’all a bunch of posers, i was playing his text adventure games before he sold out to the man
Aisle is an all timer
Shattered Memories still has a lot of good qualities, too.
PT is my favourite Silent Hill game.
