I like to think of these types of games as not being representative of what graphics looked like back in the day but of how they looked in our minds as our imaginations filled in the imagery around the edges.

I really wish there were some 2D old game remakes that expanded the scope of what you can see. I know there are some projects that do it with NES games but Id love an official thing. Maybe with an online spectator mode so you can see like 100 real time sonics or samuses or alucards running around a fully zoomed out map

The was that odd Castlevania: Harmony of Despair game that let you get a zoomed out look at the map while playing, that’s the closest “official” example of that I can think of.
