can’t gorg-post rn cos i’m away from home but i did play liberation maiden and that game is stupid as heck. it’s like the same mechanical idea as kid icarus uprising but like actually feels like it was built for its control scheme rather than as a desperate measure to get that game to work (“work”) on the threeds. it’s cool! it gets a lot of respect from me for having a hltb that looks like this:
that’s how it’s fuckn done mate.
anyway it’s like barely a mech game (falls squarely into the anime girl hole) but i did appreciate that, in order to use the special super sword attack, u have to physically unsheathe it on the lower screen.
anyway i did actually really like it even tho it’s a bit rough on my hands. it’s really admirably executed. i’m particularly impressed that the bosses are like weird and frictive (and jank, tbf) in interesting ways. i enjoyed the frantic-but-choreographed bullet dodging. cool and tense but not too hard. great stuff.
i also played sandlot’s chosoju mecha MG for a bit a while back and totally forgot to write about it:
sandlot, proving once again that they’re the only ones in the game with any chops.
game whips. it owns. it’s dumb as hell. as hell i tell you. unfortunately i am a baka gaijin (or something) so i had to stop once it seriously required that i be able to read those big honkin kanjis. but apparently there’s a full english translation just chillin on the h-shop so now i can play it for real!
the bits that i did play were very silly and fun and communicated the feeling of bashing action figures together very effectively. my one complaint is that the steering wheel for the car mech makes no sense: the car only turns while the wheel is turning! as soon as you stop turning the wheel you just go straight! it’s like, bizarrely stupid (idk maybe i’m just sensitive because of my own personal game dev proclivities). but whatever, the rest of it has been really cool.
i’m playing a million things on my threeds atm but almost none of it is mecha stuff (with the exception of metal walker for gbc) but i’ll be home again soon at which point i can post about GIANT GORG
