anyway, final fantasy X-2 is way better than final fantasy X
Same thing for the Final Fantasy XIII sequels, they’re both significant improvements on that first game

Lots of XV is super-disjointed, not working in concert. Some of the clearest scars of troubled development in a shipping game I’ve ever seen. Once you’re in that deep it’s hard to justify the time it’d take to stitch it up, but a game that’s been in development hell for years probably has team leads that know where they want to go and just need the freedom to do it. Even if that’s not in the same direction.
I mean, I think that’s overstating things a bit, it’s nowhere near as incoherent as something like cyberpunk 2077
im just jumping in here, but kingdom hearts fucking rules and nomura fucking kicks so much ass and his plots are cool ok, theyre fucking cool as shit
also ffx sucks cuz the world is so boring, the writing is so boring and the designs are ugly and it just looks bad
Certainly the main questline and character development is worse in FFXV, with crucial plot events happening offscreen, major character turns occurring through banter, and nearly all incident occurring on the periphery of the player. Sidequests and world coherence is…about an equal failure? And equally expensive to make acceptable in both.
couldn’t disagree more
heh
Is it more that you think FFXV was acceptable, because it was telling a story through the gaps? Or that Cyberpunk was worse? I thought Cyberpunk’s core narrative missions (‘golden path’) were high-polish, narratively strong, and shipped at the level they were targeting.
both! Cyberpunk had a solid prologue but fell apart immediately afterwards, everything from meeting the ripperdoc onward was simply awful, there were maybe two jobs in the whole game that left any impact at all.
FFXV had solid worldbuilding and a plot I liked and I’m the one person who liked the way the game used character absences as a thematic element in the vanilla game.
That’s fair.
I’m a sucker for intimate antagonistic relationships and I really liked the way they played Johnny as a brain parasite, for whom agreeing with may be a step towards self-annihilation, and contrasting him with the hopeful naivete of the intro companion.
Similarly, while I didn’t like any of the characters in XV except the villain (I’ve spent too much time around spoiled pretty rich people already, thanks), what I really wanted was more consistency in storytelling tools - more consistent devices. I felt restricted to Noctis’ eyes and he wasn’t paying attention or understanding why or what he was doing.
look I only barely understand the love AND hate for kingdom hearts, but the simple and clean planitb remix GOES and it is probably singlehandedly responsible for my interest in the series, whatever that means
nika and I put it on recently and I don’t know how you can not be all the way in on the game that the song is associated with after listening to it
simple and clean (planitb remix) : kingdom hearts :: house of jealous lovers : echoes (by the rapture)
The year is 2006. You watch Another Side, Another Story to wind down after school. Your friends are posturing with received opinions about the relative merits of “Sanctuary” and “Passion.” You have no idea how bad it will get.
yeah aside from a few bits here and there I honestly think XV’s story is fine, and has some truly amazing moments. it’s really not notably less coherent than any other mainline final fantasy?
like I honestly found it’s plot easier to understand on first playthrough than I did of VII, VIII, X, or XII, if that’s any measure of coherency.
this is exactly what I loved, yeah. I loved that I was bound to the perspective of this mostly spoiled rich kid who couldn’t understand why his relationships became so strained
I didn’t touch anything between 10 and 15, and I totally ignored Kingdom Hearts, so I think the character designer on 7 and 8 is way cool, and just think a lot of that stuff in the middle looks wack except for that Vagrant Story looking one
Is Vagrant Story that Hater album?
Hey nerds say something good about Type Zero because that is a Final Fantasy directed by your hero Tabata who is responsible for everything good about FF and doesn’t have that yucky Nomura who you refuse to ascribe anything to because he drew a Zipper.
i bought type zero because it was really cheap on disc and i liked the uniforms all the characters wear
it’s ok i guess, if you pay <£6 for it
feels like yet another prototype for what eventually made FF7R decent against all odds (see also lightning returns), the PSP production design is imo just too unappealing to make it anything special in the end but you can still see Tabata actually trying to make an interesting game with the accumulated cruft of final fantasy the way no one was for a decade plus
I gotta get out the red string because I just clicked something with Harry Potter > Magic Bullshit + School > All Japanese Fiction between 2005-2015 being Bullshit + School
