I just checked in and this game exists and I talk about it not nearly enough it’s 2015’s Need For Speed.

i feel like polyphony doing a take on this formula has the potential to be what we crave

yeah given the trajectory of their past few games and that mandatory video in gt sport you’re right. i think i just want gran turismo 3 but open world. i used to dream about it as a kid — a massive land where the tracks were physical locations on a map you could drive to and race on, but there was also so much happening in the broader landscape that every moment of the game was pure driving magic

I know not many of y’all have played them but the Horizon games capture some of the careening quality of Outrun (like Burnout used to)
You can dial in simulation stuff like overinflating your tires until you can’t drive straight but the only setting I usually change is to turn on the manual transmission
