select & button poll of the films

i feel like what happened is, jellicle started nominations, and i can’t speak for anyone else but i totally misread his post and thought we were doing another double elimination type deal, though he did say it was just gonna be a simple tally. it became apparent fairly early on that people were deliberately picking unnominated films, and the +5 was asked for and granted. i reckon that meant we got more multiple-vote entries than we would have otherwise but it also meant that picking novel films in the main 10 was more incentivised than ever — i love the docos i picked but i would not have even thought of them if i had to fit my +1s into my 10. if someone wants to take this dataset and run a bracket-and-debate for the next year or two i’d love that but given the sheer number of entries and my own estimation of my general follow-through i couldn’t possibly. anyway now i have a neat list of film recs that spans a wide gamut of tone and genre for me to dip into

Warms my heart to see Alice get some love.

Gonna try and watch all the films that qualified for voting but I started with Putney Swope which didn’t and boy did I laugh at that “Spiro Agnew’s funeral” photo gag (among other things (pretty good gag ratio)).

This was a great thread. I think I have more fun talking movies with everyone here because I’m not as well versed in video games unless they’re thirty years old.

I tried to make a letterboxd list that included every mentioned film. I know it’s definitely missing two or more and others with common titles might have been entered incorrectly. I imported it using a CSV so :man_shrugging:t2:

I didn’t know you did it for the single-vote ones! My poor reading skills!

ohhh no no i see. carry on

TBF, you did already do this for the most part. I just figured out how to upload your full chart into a letterboxd list.

technology marches onward!

I watched this a couple of nights ago, it was a lot of fun! I loved how over-the-top the color of the blood was in particular. Meiko Kaji does so much with her face in this movie - the little twitch of a satisfied smile, then the eyebrows raising in sadness and pain when the daughter of the man she killed earlier stabs her is really wonderful, and she’s like that the whole film.

Incredible how much Kill Bill is just This Movie.

Anyway I loved this.

the more niche japanese movies you watch, the more you realize that quentin tarentino’s early career was just repackaging and white-washing the japanese movies he liked.
