the runner themselves really has very little to do with it. distortion2 is bound by the wishes of the community at large, such that his decisions are just about which category to run, while the community determines the criteria for each category. itâs extremely common and generally accepted to use the fastest patch for âtrue any%â, which is frequently (but not always) the most popular category due to how simple it is to understand: finish the game as quickly as possible without restrictions.
distortion2 would essentially need to learn a new category which is less prestigious⌠it just doesnât make a ton of sense. he couldnât keep running the same category because without new skips being discovered, heâd probably be unable of ever getting another personal best. his time would be locked to a patch he could no longer use⌠itâs basically a dead end for his achievement in that category.
sekiro already has other categories, which dist2 may very well end up running.
btw the world record is already at 22:57, and thereâs an ogre skip now as well.
Given that they buffed Sabimaru and she was already weak to divine confetti, its probably just to force at least a remotely legit fight instead of a total cheese fight. (She was already weak to sabimaru and that + divine confetti meant that you could cut through her vit in no time)
In hindsight, I feel like thereâs a drawback to the âquest designâ and npcs in this game that isnât as noticeable in the others because the other from games were generally much more maximalist in scope and design.
There are so many quests in this game that feel barely present. Like conversing with OâRin or having Jinza go all the way to Mibu Village only to die. I even tried luring Oârin all the way over to Jinza while he was still alive but it amounted to nothing. I wanted to see some interaction, or at least some handholds for investigating their mysterious relationship.
But there wasnât anything. It feels like the game kept stonewalling me with the loose threads of the narrative.
I managed to eject the disc today to watch a movie maybe I can stop playing this game I beat twice and am on track for two more tries.
I donât have any great insights. I am going to upload my most recent final boss run so there is non-super pro but well executed with mistakes strats. That the super difficult can be weighed down to normal challenge and that the previously roadblocks now look like slow motion easy mode is an incredible accomplishment of game design.
I was trying to get away from those flying tengu guys on the rooftops of the castle and i fell into an area that led to like 4 whole other levels
The valley full of snipers gave me the same âwhat the fuck, i canât possibly do thisâ feeling as when i first walked into sens fortress and saw the chamber of giant swinging guillotines. i love it
Any particularly recommended prosthetic upgrades? Obviously the firecrackers and shuriken get first priority but iâm eyeballing those axe upgrades too. Is the axe worth messing with? It seems like a way to add greatsword-esque âpoise through attackâ type damage.
Is there a better combat art than Itchy-Momjeans because that seems like the obvious best one.
Iâm gonna try to beat Lady Butterfly now that i have 8 gourd sips wish me luck
the gouging top shuriken is useful and worth nabbing. apparently you can use the spinning axe for mob control - i mostly used the whirlwind attack combat art for that, or just ran away and came back to stealth kill instead of dealing with too many mobs.
ichimonji is super good, yeah. worth getting the double upgrade on that. most of the combat arts are a bit too weak outside of specialized instances, as far as i can tell. that said, the monk skills seem great, iâd like to mess around with those more
8 gourds before defeating lady butterfly!?! i only got 9 in total!
No joke, i havenât even really tried to fight her yet. the first time i ran into her i idolâd out because i was like âthereâs no way iâm ready to fight this cool old lady, sheâs gonna beat my ass like a bongo drumâ
Turns out i was right!
Edit: i won!!
Im sure this practically means absolute dick-all to anyone, because iâm like 20 lightyears behind everyone else playing this game now, but the number 1 thing that has helped me grasp the combat in Sekiro is internalizing that every little bit counts. The game emphasizes posture a whole lot, but just dealing vitality damage makes it easier and easier for you to build up posture damage. Most of the tough fights seem extra scary because theyâre just no-selling every one of our attacks, but the little nicks and cuts we get in between do add up. I think despite the complexity that this combat system projects, it just comes down to âevery enemy has 2 simultaneous health bars and depleting all of either one will kill themâ
Also: stand perfectly still while fighting and only hit the stick when you need to dodge. From finally figured out the ultimate way to disincentivize circle strafing was by building an entire combat system around not doing it lol
edit2: this game also produces a strong feeling of unwarranted pride and authority after defeating a tough boss thatâs roughly on par with huffing your own farts and i am sincerely sorry if that miasma is surrounding this post
Yeah, that gives me hope for beating the final boss. After a marathon session and grinding through the end game boss rush Iâm currently stalled at the final fight. I might take a few days off and attempt again but itâs good to see someone beat it who wasnât perfect.
I was on owl father since whenever I last posted in this thread until last night, I donât know if I got anything left in the tank for the sword saint
