it is perfectly fine and looks better than the n64 version. if you already have it you should play it. my issues with it are minor

I’m giant apologist for NES era stuff, but Mario 3 even back on release felt like it was straining under its constraints. It took the weird abstract world of Mario 1 and literally rounded off the edges, and added a cartoon friendly cast of wacky villains. The music isn’t anywhere near as good as the original’s. It’s flat out not playable in a comfortable single sitting. and should have had a password or save system (although 2 is perhaps even worse in this regard).

As a kid I built up a nice NES collection based on some good report cards. I had more games than a kid who slept in a tiny inner city apartment’s dining room (with some Mario bedsheets mind you) probably should have had. But never did I even think about wanting Mario 3. I picked out Faxanadu, Power Blade, and god damn Ghost Lion as a kid. Mario 3 was a one time rental.

I saw the Wizard opening weekend. I clearly remember pouring over the instruction book the day that my friend got it and we were stuck at the pool at his grandmother’s apartment rather than at his place playing it. I watched that shitty cartoon. But I just was not into the game.

Mario 3 is “fine.” That’s it. If I want NES Mario, SMB 1 is leagues better. If I want a big varied 2D Mario with a bunch of fun power-ups and stage themes, World is superior.

Quake is a marvel. Rocket jumps. QuakeC. The Bad Place. Team Fortress. Tenebrae. Track 3. +mlook. ultrav.

Vote for Quake.

Chrono Trigger and it’s pioneering New Game+ mode, moral dilemmas about getting all of the characters, and that beautifully pulled off trial is an amazing game. But Dragon’s Dogma feels like someone took all the hopes and dreams of 80s CRPGs, put them in a blender with everything that was cool on the PS2, and then gave it a blood transfusion from Shadow Over Mystara. It’s just such a wild thing to have been made, and it’s absolutely frustrating that the few flesh and blood nerds in my area who I know haven’t touched it at all despite having spent half their lives in Skyrim. I gotta rep the underdog, ser.

Plus at no point does Chrono Trigger place you into a scene ripped straight from Blue Velvet.

It’s neat how you can create a parallel comparison between early Mario and early id. Wolfenstein 3D and Mario Bros. match. Doom matches SMB. Doom 2 matches SMB 2j, and, coincidentally, SMB 3 matches Quake.

I have yet to complete Quake but it has such a beautiful 3D level geometry that matches perfectly with its enemy encounters. @Tulpa did a good job of describing it in the Easy setting games thread. I’m a vidiot who loves 3D. 2D is for babies. Vote Quake.

I will not vote for Mario but I also do not like Nocturne. I got like 3 hours in and went “yep this is SMT”.

I got like 6 hours into SMTIVA and then found it to be morally compromised but damned if I can remember what happened. I remember talking about it with booji and him going “yeah you should stop.”

Death to Nintendo I will never smile while gaming!!!

Gimmick! is maybe the most underrated video game ever. It’s the Mario x Sonic crossover I imagined as a kid but adorable and superhard. This is my very strongest commitment in these polls.
