Saturn is not our future.

20 day buddy update (15 hours in)

Hisssa is getting so tough.

Wuuf is just good at everything except stabbing.

After finding a second arrow launcher Gothmog is getting some battle work beyond casting fireball.

Monster variety has exploded, trick and trap variety has exploded. I have an extra key from not opening a door back on like level 2 and I just used it on like level 4. I prolly could have skipped 2 of the doors I opened. I worry that if I did this wrong I could have soft locked myself and had to load older saves. I recommend using 3 slots in the ram cart for rotating and one at the start of each load zone / stair. Not that I have needed to back track via saves yet.

So far Im not drawing any maps despite that being the advice of the manual. Ive pretty much learned the magic system. Its not that hard. If you wanted to just sit there and lab it out you could discover spells you don’t have scrolls for. I discovered one magic ball and I don’t know what it does at all yet. The areas are quite diverse and memorable. The puzzles continue to be just hard enough to be fun.

We fought a boss and then ate it.

I’m having an issue where Wuuf is so strong and so useful that when they get tired we become over burdened and they get tired a lot. Thankfully we found a dont-get-tired-as-fast staff I have them hold when doing a lot of magic. Magic is really draining and tiring. I think Wuff and Gothmog eat twice what everyone else does. I just realized that makes them the scooby and shaggy of the gang. We managed to game over finally. I think my team is just really well balanced.
Poor Gothmog is so dedicated to darkness I cant even get them started learning priest skills. As you can see Wuuf has twice their MP due to multi tasking.
I assume Hissa is a lady lizard. I like this mix of tough girls driving the bus and swinging axes while the too goofy goobers in the back mix drugs, cast magic and eat sandwiches.

The lack of music is not a big deal. This game has a very evocative mood overall.

I found new button shortcuts and now I can grab a whole pile of stuff or make a whole pile of potions in a few seconds.

For flavor

Legit scary encountering these in tight spaces.

Bulk Slash is a game about picking up girls in your giant robots who then proceed to scream at you the entire time.

A drive-in that shoots fire. Why not?

I don’t know if this is supposed to be the player.

This is a fan sub with a fan dub of all the voices. Its so well done.

Apparently this has twin stick support which I haven’t setup yet. If I wasn’t laid off right now Id be really tempted to build a digital twin stick for it. Its quite fun and a great way to kill an hour. VS Dungeon Master which makes me want to kill about 5 hours.

How does a digital twin stick differ from a regular one? Also yes please build one!

I think the old Saturn twin-stick had switches (on/of, digital) instead of pots (variable range, analog)

Oh true, they’re definitely just arcade sticks stuffed into a flight stick shell lol

The prophecy has come to pass. With FFX done I put the childish (Playstation) things away to embrace the refined (Sega Saturn).

I have, a few, Saturn games. Looking at them I am immediately at odds. Do I bother with the finnicky real save batteries of Sega Saturn or just use the Mister core right next to the Saturn and not have to bother. This question will nag at me for at least a day when I make a decision. I think I’d like to finally play Sakura Taisen.

I foolishly bought one of the omake colllections thinking it had Koi Koi in it. I’m not sure it DOES have Koi Koi in it. Clearly I could also stand to lose a couple of Saturn games, but I’d need to get rid of A Lot before I actually “made space.” I also found three CDs by a forgotten ska band called Emmie The Stripper that I meant to bring to the meetup.

The first order of business was playing through to the credits of Vampire Hunter. Which is overflowing with the best pixel art you’ve ever seen. Creativity in every frame. Capcom were the best in the business.
I followed it up with Saturn Super Vol 8 a fantastic demo disc with Kenji Eno interviews and the most valuable footage ever. Contemporary footage of How To Play Nights! I gotta grab isos of all the others in this series.

House of the Dead is a bad port but HotD1 is a cool game. Shame I can’t play it as intended. Maybe one day I’ll get one of those expensive modern light guns or two and me and Neo Rude can have a blast.

These no-name S-video cables and my aliexpress upscaler make the Saturn look GREAT though.

Feel like I often see that in the display case at Bookoff.

Honestly has more in common with THPS than Mario 64

i feel like those few seconds at the start of each stage where you play as the kid are some kind of “put a bit that’s like a platformer in there, people know what a platformer is” concession.

Hmmmmmmm, as someone who played Nights first time on the X360 in … 2010 or so? … it always felt like it could also have been an elaborate ‘look, this jumping and running is for children, the real cool … things fly around like crazy, wooohooooo’ trolling.

Which would mean that yes, indeed they trolled the hell out of Sonic as well, yeah…

It’s thematic, the kids jumping ungainly through a collapsing to the libertion of flight

Love how this plays back in the game’s final level too

Such a beautiful game told through no dialogue, unlike the Wii game that only uses dialogue :cryingpig:
