No one mentioned Crazy Taxi?
The way CT1’s map is only populated with palm trees, and the silver busses on the highway, already read as being more LA than San Francisco to me.
Decided to make a spreadsheet to judge how strong the San Francisco vibes are in all these San Francisco games, which lead to finally watching a long play of Under A Killing Moon. I’m glad I avoided this back in the day, despite fiending for adventure games, because it’s combination of unserious characters, looney toons visual gags, and terrible puzzle design would have driven me up a wall. Also “Features the voice of James Earl Jones” yeah I guess that’s technically true even though he just reads 5 lines of Poe poetry and voices an unnamed framing device character who doesn’t do anything.
EDIT: Wait a minute is every Tex Murphy game about neo nazis trying to eradicate all lesser races? Because the first and third game are, and the second game is in the ballpark.
Back on my bullshit, looking up videos of The Crew to see how it handled San Francisco in a game that covers the entire united states. Luckily one of the final story missions of the game takes starts in San Francisco…
…on Haight Ashbury St…
…and it’s a four lane street…
um
this one?
Haight St & Ashbury St would be 4 lane if they got rid of the parking. also you drive from SF to LA in 5 minutes
The Crew 2 further expands the road with a bike lane. “Haight Ashbury St” is wider than the Bay Bridge.
To appease my demons I’ve compiled all the games in this thread, and a handful of others, based on how many San Francisco landmarks they incorporate.
Based on this scientific process, I am dubbing Super Runabout: San Francisco Edition the most San Francisco game. It even has the sea lions.
I would like to apologize for including this video in this thread, because while it does have cable cars (in the Mississippi level) and the Golden Gate Bridge (in the New York level), the video does not show the San Francisco stage. I have yet to find a video that does, probably because the game has like 50 stages over 15 routes.
Also I’ve found a new landmark I like to keep an eye out for in games: Big Al’s
my dad would probably argue he could swing that
