Romancing SaGa 2 / general kawazu worship thread

nice

now just move that last ability you picked up well far away from your replacement slot and if you don’t accidentally replace whatever other 1-3 abilities help him retain sphinx form (trial and error) you should only get upgrades from new monster skills

I’m currently grinding the cave for funsies so I can get the gun and mech weapons from Koorong, and to see if my five-man party can defeat the self-healing bug boss that Emelia’s team couldn’t in the early game. II have no idea what monster skills to expect so I’m kind of just picking up random stuff as I go along

EDIT: ok apparently the encounter for Riki is just two bugs rather than the entire suite of Giant Bug + Three Small Bugs, and defeating them just puts me back outside of the room with Riki going, “What was that?”

Half guess here but you might need to be on the Rune path via the quest in Devin to have that boss show up if you aren’t already.

The game now nicely asks you which skill you want to delete!

To continue the Pokemon analogy, this is like when Shigesato Itoi went from writing a game script featuring cops getting into fistfights with children in Earthbound, to one where police officers participate in enjoyable pocket-monster matches with children

Honestly I didn’t expect monster transformation to require an exceptional amount of homework. There’s no way I’d have ever figured this out on my own. SaGa Frontier isn’t a game, it’s a guidebook advertisement

I keep absorbing different abilities and DOWNGRADING. Riki’s stats literally just keep getting worse because I keep accidentally transforming him into a weaker monster. God fuck

important saga question:
by picking a character route and completing it, is that the end of the save file, or am I committing to a single save and doing NG+ for other routes?

I’m every single character in this casino.

I’m still playing Emeril’s quest, hoping I can avoid the roadblock Marina hit. I think I’m deeper than I ever got in this game before. I am glad this is faster and has quick save and I can play it in bed, big hit.

Oh and the Red or Emeril recommendation that’s been going around came from SE so if I get stuck it’s their press team’s fault I guess

in the PS1 version you could have multiple characters going simultaneously and have a separate reserved block for “system data” that recorded when you cleared them

no idea what they’ve done with this one

these combo names are getting out of hand in an appropriately a**** fashion

Combos are a weird thing but it’s also cool to have a different version of the glimmer endorphin hit that can happen repeatedly in a single battle.

One-liner writing in this game rivals that of Dragon Warrior

Edit: I just remembered that Bachi posted this NPC already but I’m posting it with a different playthrough so it’s a DIFFERENT SCREENSHOT

Glimmers are maybe my favorite game mechanic…

Found the conversation slime missed out on that required her to restart and just died laughing, this is now one of my favorite games

Afterwards Emeril makes fun of “Princess White Rose”'s name, I’m sorry Felix, this path is very problematic but I am also loving it. Women in prison followed by entering a martial arts tournament wearing a lucha mask followed by infiltrating a casino dressed as a bunny girl followed by getting drugged and shipped off to a harem where you recruit other concubines to fight unicorns…that’s gaming, man…that’s the good stuff.

okay whoever fought magma slimes and didn’t yell at kawazu wasn’t doing their job properly

I actually managed to beat the magma slimes on the first try, but it was harrowing without knowing how many would actually keep spawning. luckily my sword guys had tornado slash and deflect

and riki, with siren, which is an extremely powerful all-targeting ability currently
