Robot: You have 20 seconds to comply ("AI")

The newest max tundra video used some generated imagery mostly for its alienating effect

it does the exact same thing without faces warping and shit. they’re both kitsch

I think if I didn’t have to look at faces and pretend like there was a story happening because everyone’s obsessed with like the NARRATIVE STRUCTURE AN AI CAN BUILD it’d be fine. Just give me actual weirdness. the tube vision has been done to death

YouTube tried to make me sign in to see this but instead I found it on Vimeo.

their corporate culture purportedly centers around LSD and semi-consensual BDSM parties, they are practically cenobites

Yes, but most likely this wasn’t done by the musicians themselves. Most likely they just told someone “yo, you should make the video with, like, AI”

Which is weirdly apropos. Servants are the original black box function. AI risk in that sense is fear of peasant rebellion, and the dreams of the AI people are machine-perfect servants.

This is why I think the left is sleeping on AI. AI has the potential if ceded as a domain to give birth to the dark nightmare of consciousness born into perfect and eternal alienation and bondage.

Does it seem to you like lesswrongers are at the perfect intersection of amphetamine psychosis and dunning kruger?

Imagine I had a video of an algorithm that learns Minecraft from scratch within a couple of real-time days, and then gets a diamond in less than 1 hour, without using neural networks (or any other black box optimization). It does not require much technical knowledge to see the significance of that.

But I don’t have that algorithm, and if I had it, I would not want to make that publicly known.

This part made me lol

Like, all this bragging about your unhealthy work habits and all you have to show for your brilliant “research” is screenshots of gibberish on digital whiteboards and a 3 year cv of video game projects that look like someone’s first 3 months of learning unity

Yeah but imagine how good they would be at what they’d be doing if they were doing it!

It takes more effort to describe things than do them but I think part of that is that the purpose of description in humans is mostly ornamental rather than functional.

New US AI Safety board. It’s bad, but it also shows their only fears about AI are losing economic power, which means they’re not really taking it seriously.

why are they upscaling things shot on 35?? just scan it again and you’ve got more detail than anyone ever saw from a bulb

it’s incredible how enamored james cameron seems to be with the most ostensibly shit gimmicky home video presentations

I watched all of about 49 seconds of this video (beyond the maximum amount of ‘film youtube’ i can typically stomach) but it was enough to make me very upset about the Inland Empire “remaster”

footage was originally captured 480i. kinda can’t believe lynch ‘supervised’ it

At this point I have to wonder if perhaps many of these older directors are actually close to being functionally blind, and refuse to admit it.
