The first demo of Tomb Raider 2 on the Sega Saturn is out now! Please read the description before downloading.

Tomb Raider debuted on the Sega Saturn in October 1996 and catapulted Lara Croft into stardom. The much-anticipated sequel was originally planned for the Saturn, but a deal with Sony ultimately prevented the series from ever returning to the console. Now, nearly 30 years later, Lara is coming back home, ready to show off all her new moves in a revamped new engine.

In this opening level, you get to experience dynamic lighting, an impressive skybox, new traps and enemies, and so much more! Consider this first demo a teaser for what’s to come. A second, more extensive, demo is planned for Q2.

Whether you’re a longtime Saturn fan or just curious about what could have been, I hope you enjoy this first glimpse of retro Lara’s return.

Project Info

This fan project aims to replicate Tomb Raider 2 on the Sega Saturn, or at least to an extent. Its method of approach first takes original Tomb Raider 2 assets that are then modified and converted to the Saturn format, all with custom-written tools. Secondly, it uses the original Tomb Raider 1 Saturn engine as a base and injects new code to implement relevant Tomb Raider 2 functionality, effectively forming a hybrid engine.

Firstly, I’d like to thank my fantastic testing crew, for all their feedback and support: benclaff , Costenaro Play , DavidCoq , HauntedCitizen , manofstone17 , Peter Malek and retro dad and modern lad . I’d like to thank the trview crew (with chreden in particular), for such a multi-faceted piece of software, which helped me investigate TR2 level data and even verify my converted Saturn output. Super useful! I’d also like to thank RoS for their fullscreen patch and health bar gradient, and vbt for some help with the compiler. Another thank you to TrekkiesUnite118, for their very useful Sega Saturn FILM Muxer tool. A big thank you to Troye , for sharing some of his knowledge on the classic TR engine! Lastly, a special shoutout to retro dad and modern lad , for always going through the extra mile of testing, and for supporting me along this journey. Go check out his incredible Sega oriented channel: / @retrodadandmodernlad9857

This download folder contains a native NTSC version and a PAL-compensated NTSC version. If you own a PAL console and play at 50 Hz, the PAL-compensated version keeps gameplay at intended speed and prevents desyncing during the final cutscene. In all other cases, play the regular NTSC version.

What is XeniOS?

XeniOS is an experimental Apple-focused fork of Xenia, currently based on Xenia Edge. It is the fast-moving branch used to develop, test, and ship the iPhone, iPad, and Mac experience while also carrying platform changes that benefit ARM64 Windows, Linux, and Android.

What stage of development is XeniOS in?

XeniOS is pre-release and experimental. Expect crashes, graphical glitches, missing features, and major game-to-game variance while core behavior is still being validated. Do not expect a polished or perfect experience yet.

In 1995, Digital Pictures began development on what would become PrizeFighter - Heavyweight Edition for the Sega Saturn. Intended for release in 1996, it was ultimately cancelled due to the closure of Digital Pictures that same year.

Built using the original DSK/TOC/RTI/SCR files, PrizeFighter - Heavyweight Edition for the Sega Saturn is now available for everyone to download in both English and Japanese. Enjoy!

Congo Bongo: The Isometric Edition (MSX)

The arcade classic finally comes home to the MSX as it was meant to be played.

For years, MSX fans had to settle for a lackluster cassette version of Congo Bongo that lacked the visual depth and perspective of the original Sega masterpiece. This new port—built upon the excellent Colecovision version— restores the iconic isometric perspective and challenging gameplay that made the arcade original a legend.

Avoid the coconuts, dodge the rhinos, and show that mischievous ape who’s boss in a port that prioritizes quality, compatibility, and arcade authenticity.

The MegaDrive version has an English fanslation as well, though that version is more comedic than the others, from what I have read.

@Damiano Gerli:
More preservation work!
We were able to get our hands on a ultra rare Italian copy of Cartoon Carnival, the 1995 Philips-produced collection of Hanna & Barbera flavored minigames.
This PC version was interestingly co-produced by The Cartoon Network and published in 1996.
Preserved on Archive.
