New theory: this is RE:V because they are moving out on the timeline, setting it after RE4. This way Chris goes straight into his hunt for Wesker instead of getting sidetracked for 8 years. This also allows them to add Plagas enemies to the game.
Second moonshot: It is called Veronica because she will be a charcter in the game. In CV Veronica had been dead for a hundred years, and probably didn’t even know what germ theory is. Thanks to the mold in 7/8 we now have a way for personalities to be transferred across time. Psycho reference with Alfred? Nope, just Veronica exerting her will. Alexia’s plan to hop in a tube for 10 years? Veronica the entire time.
Also, this is really reinforcing my thesis that what Resident Evil needs in order to work as a story is having at least one central character who is scared shitless.
(Which sounds like an obvious thing, except that Resident Evil often doesn’t have that character.)
