think that emote is probably some kind of reward for another quest
pyramid run was fun with ben and parks, probably do some more of that
haven’t made it through the heap of 2.x campaign beats yet but this is the first game i’ve stuck resolutely to healer class shit and i don’t really see that changing. granted, i can’t dodge other jobs entirely because you want those passive bonuses for lvling up, but having a slim wep/armor inventory very much suits me
do need to sort out proper glam though, been slack there
there’s a cycle of quests that all ask you to bring a specific thing, top of my head there’s one that asks to see a specific vocation level and one for a crafter and one for an emote and one for an armor set. and you can bring another party member with the thing and that’ll count. they’re unnumbered and repeatable and they change every day, and i do remember it being hard to parse what some of them were asking for. if you want to clear them it’s probably best to just check them once in a while to see if you have the thing for that day (i also found them distracting when they were lurking around my quest list way back when)
Yeah, I’m pretty resigned to taking this one all the way. I’m almost done unlocking and leveling passives for all the version 1 vocations, and I want to see what else they’ve got in store. Something that only just occurred to me is the degree to which DQX is the game I was imagining when I tried to articulate what I wished FFXI had been. (Although I suppose FFXI is now also much more the game I wanted it to be than it was originally.)
Kind of wish I wasn’t trying to juggle three MMOs simultaneously. Plus I want to go back to GW2 again at some point…
and with appropriate timing right as another species of humanoid acknowledge my golden christhood i hit the f2p level cap so i guess i have to give squeenix some more money now
been a steady curve up but i was definitely feeling it around there too… those towers…!
hadn’t been any sign of puff/bedragon and that made sense to me, seemed a stretch that it could fit in mechanically… so you can imagine my delight as i unlocked my first of the three master vocations last night and discovered it revolves around undergoing horrific dragon transformations
master vocations use “the zone” and “pep powers,” that’s right, from dqxi… in fact i recently had the chilling realization that dqxi came out kind of a long time ago actually, way back between dqx versions 3 and 4 if you’re wondering. chilling.
have to admit, the game seems to keep owning more and more… fights get more difficult, classes get more distinct, gearing gets more interesting, party composition feels like more of a puzzle, plots and structures continue to surprise… is this an mmo at all…? there is a “weekly” “pyramid” i suppose…
if you’re out there thinking about logging on, remember that this could be u if u playin… looking for a secret fish with your friends prancing pillar and bambooligan at a rest point at the top of the water tower, about to get your shit absolutely wrecked by a two-phase dolphin boss…
one final note, in case anyone missed this major news: dragon quest x version 8 (first announced within 24 hours of dqv credits rolling at sbcon) was just dated for this summer on the anniversary of twin peaks the return part 8
This thread got to me make an account on this site - hi everyone. I’ve played every other DQ and this was the last one to check off the list. Never played an MMO before. I’m pretty shocked at the extent to which it’s just Straight-up Dragon Quest though. Overworld, town, dungeon, boss, laugh/cry - rinse-repeat. Combined with the translation tools there’s a perpetual sense of mystery and ‘I shouldn’t be here’ that I haven’t felt in a game before. We got a Team here? I’m only in the DQX Worldwide one and while they’re nice enough, I can’t tell if the majority of people active in chat are underemployed or just terrifyingly young.
speaking of, which crafter job have yous guys picked to grow, because it’d probably be effective if we can service our gear needs collectively than scrabble for gold (i’m presuming gold farming is a slog in dqx, maybe it isn’t!)
This link just takes me to an error, unfortunately.
@Brooks - That’s a good question. I haven’t decided yet, I’m just dabbling in them as I come across them while I do version 1. I enjoy the sewing and weapon/armor smithing more than the alchemy roulette, but I haven’t really given that a solid go yet.
i’m on pot alchemy, tbh i’d love someone else to start making some gear if only so i could experiment with enhancing a little bit… besides the dream of making our own gear, i suspect crafting will be a road to riches, purchasing the team town someday, etc etc…
right, i’ll start maxing out the sewing job, i mean it’s personally resonant if little else
again meanwhile i am compelled to nod to the cutscene team on this, how is it that they managed to do modelled objects for every item exchange and gestures as subtle as wiping a tear from a little girl’s eye and squeezing their hand with such casual grace like 10 years ago and ffxiv is still stiff as a fucking board
I’m willing to do some weapon or armor crafting, then. Let me get to woodcrafting trial town before I fully commit, as I hear that’s unique.
I have the game cranked up to max res and despite rough textures close-up, the Toriyama artstyle goes so far in futureproofing this game. Turns out that old gag about him only being able to draw like four faces lends itself really really well to making super expressive characters who can reuse set animation. Awesome stuff
Woodworking is literally the only profession I’ve tried so far, and it’s a fun little minigame of shaping your wood to match the object. I’m not attached to it, though. Crafting hasn’t been a priority.
Probably won’t be getting in very much until the second half of this month, as the other online game I play has a big deadline on the 17th.
What combat vocations have y’all enjoyed the most so far? I can’t get over how much fortune teller is my jam, even though I spend every fight snap-selecting the first card I drew without looking at it. I really like the card synthesis/deck selection process.
I will Log On later and give the woodworking a go.
I stumbled into Death Master yesterday, which feels very unique for a Dragon Quest job - separate resource pool, summonable ghosts leaving you free to support/damagedeal as you see fit, very original.
Every time I log on I think I’m going to do finally do some story stuff. Instead I play 3 hours of fetchquests to carry 25 more pieces of crap. I’m pretty sure I could kill anything v1 can throw at me with my weakest vocation, but I’m constantly running into dudes who need a seashell in exchange for doubling my mount’s fuel efficiency or whatever. Why am I doing this to myself
i’ve left a lot of sidequesting ‘til i’ve run outta story content. handily, the Quests tab does tell you the broad value of each, so you’re less likely to miss out on the ones that give you more tools, uncap your levels etc
