So there is a Steam next fest that started today that dropped hundreds of demos on the new release list, plus all sorts of pages added because of those not-E3 streams and I realized that no, I don’t have to do this. If you are curious you can go browse the last few day’s of new releases yourself, I took a personal day and will maybe go back to this once beyond the absurdity.

A rounding hammer is an unusual choice for one of these. V. rare to see a hammer that might actually be used for the purpose irl.

So I should probably mention that I tried the demo for Dimenshift (actually got a few demos to try from today’s list, which may hilariously match the amount I tried from the actual Nextfest dealie last week) and it pleasantly surprised me.
Didn’t include a screenshot before as it’s not particularly grabbing but I’m always ready for minimalist platformers and I was initially disappointed as I hit the demo end at the end of the 5th level within just a few minutes. The central gimmick of “hold down a button to become invisible/able to pass through faint walls, finish this before the meter drains at an inopportune time” was fine but didn’t really feel like there was enough to really judge.
There was a note saying I can use the warp system to go back to the first stage, thought it was odd to include in this type of game and… well when you get back to the first stage you notice some things you were taught later. Basically it seems to be an exploration-centric game, I stumbled upon 24 stages before I called it quits with these hidden ones containing all sorts of mechanical variants that the base levels (all five of them) don’t even really hint at.
(Also clearly a bonus stage but I’m now more interested in how this is implemented)
Anyways gets a full random game tip of the hat, I don’t know if hiding 80% of your demo’s content is a technically wise idea but it makes for a pleasantly surprising experience.
