if you make a game as a hobby, that $100 can be seen as being part of the cost of the hobby.
what does steam offer that other free platforms don’t? is it just prestige? there’s a large audience, but the algorithms governing which products are displayed seem pretty harsh (???)

To be fair, I paid something similar to self-host my projects. I think the social cues of having your game on Steam are kind of like having a gmail account: 10 years ago, it meant you were in on the new professionalism, and now it doesn’t mean that at all but still carries a halo of it. So I understand it next to other choices like self-hosting or putting it on itch or another game site. It’s the most straightforward way to show someone your work.
Steam algorithms try a little harder than other sites to push new stuff but they still give up pretty quickly. You’re not getting many guaranteed impressions these days from a Steam listing.

is Lorn’s Lure actually Sexy Hiking 3D?
I didn’t try the demo/prologue but based on the dev’s prior game the climbing is likely way too forgiving for that to be an apt comparison. Then again that game was climbing up a ridiculously large structure to reach a ridiculously out of the way location so… I mean maybe?
