i’ve played this game. i like it. i think you (@username) in particular would like it.
it really is bizarre how quickly this kind of art has been cheapened, even when it looks incredibly polished. like 15 years ago any recent game with pixel art with what your average every day content fodder pixel arty indie game has now would be a huge event.
this kind of “visual style over every thing else” definitely is a product of the last 10 years of indie games as a thing and just what tracks well on social media i think. it’s definitely filtered down to students i’ve taught in school who get the aesthetic stuff down right away but struggle with more moment to moment design/mechanical stuff.
Oddly enough I was a relatively low vote on “Throw Cubes into Brick Towers To Collapse Them”, but this is also likely due to the fact that anything above the smallest structures caused the whole thing to basically become a few frames every second slideshow. I purchased this PC back in September of 2010 and it wasn’t like top of the line back then (spending a bit more for 8GB of ram is probably what saved it for a while, it was cheap back then) so anything involving actual physics is asking a bit. I’d consider buying a new one in the near future but prices still seem nuts.
(The other reason I was more than willing to jump into a whole pile of low-end indie games suddenly becomes obvious.)
And who here was waiting for a Christmas themed Cave Story spinoff built around stealth and without the guy who actually made the game in the first place? Nicalis gonna Nicalis I guess.
(No, I ain’t even gonna bother sharing a screenshot, you are missing nothing.)
So I’ve mentioned in the past games have a habit of appearing on the “new release” list several times thanks to early access and various other Steam quirks, which often leaves me with some odd feelings of deva ju such as…
Did I see that before, or is this the exact kind of random I’ve seen so many times that I can no longer tell? I searched the topic and it turns out this game was also on the new release list back on January 15th (of course I mentioned the whale parkour back then), which is long enough that I don’t feel bad not being certain but know stuff like this happens frequently.
