RE4 needs to be played with a Gamecube controller, all the controls make more sense that way

not much I can do about that, though :frowning:

ā€œWell, I see that the president has equipped his daughter with… [inhale] ballisticsā€.

Does he say that? Jesus

I hope this game got shit from sb for the sexism. In the very beginning there was a woman nailed to the side of a cabin with a pitchfork or some other tool and Leon’s comment was that there’s apparently no gender discrimination in this town. Like, really? You’re gonna say that? Never mind that women are most vulnerable in any society and on the receiving end of violence all the time but whatever

I’m having considerably more fun with the controller. Also, with the rifle and tmp because they can actually get stuff done. Especially the rifle because it kills in one headshot

A few years ago I worked with a woman who looked like Ashely from RE4. We’d tease her by yelling ā€˜Leon help!’ all the time and eventually her nickname became Leon.

She was really cool and well-liked and when she quit we realized no one remembered her actual name, the end.

this naked disc of RE6 has sat unclaimed for a month and a half. The Wii TNA impact copy is the only game I’ve seen last longer

I don’t know what makes 6 such sb material, I thought it was just supposed to be trash? I mean, is that why it’s good or what am I missing?

i don’t think it’s SB material. i’ve been proselytizing it because i do think lots of people here could/would appreciate it

it is trash in some ways, but it’s also one of the best third-person action games ever made. the combat is miles ahead of RE4/5

double post-as-edit: honestly i don’t really know how to describe or defend it other than to say it is a very unique game and nothing else comes remotely close to executing the things it does well.

edit edit: have you actually played it? where did you get the idea that it was trash?

The removal of gun porn was the cardinal sin in my eyes.

I can’t entirely shelve my professional contempt for the buckets of wasted money in RE6, but I’ve bounced off it twice and am still planning to go back on your recommendation.

My current feeling is that it has almost transitioned out of the deliberate, restrictive pace of RE4 into a smooth action game but unfortunately retains some holdovers, in a similar manner as late pre-Symphony Castlevanias (I find those Castlevanias internally inconsistent too).

There’s not a world where I don’t prefer slow and deliberate action to frenetic but I know I don’t understand it or enjoy it to a level I could, because I trust you that there’s something more there.

You’re kinda selling me on it. A RE with better combat system is quite enticing.

I haven’t played it myself, no, just watched other people play it and I was mostly turned off by the setting and the enemy designs. It felt like the series ran out of ideas. But I’m more than willing to give it a shot myself, thus my interest in people’s opinion on it. Thanks for responding! I’ll probably try it next week…

RE6 is definitely not lacking in ideas!

my biggest issue with the game is that some cutscenes are unskippable, and given that the game is brutally unforgiving on the harder difficulties (which i recommend highly), you’ll likely watch certain scenes way too many times. pretty sexist at times (chris’ campaign intro cutscene is quite blegh). that said, it has a fabulous contradictory BBB-movie vibe which i dig. it’s cheeky and doesn’t take itself a tenth as seriously as RE4 or 5. mercenaries level design is a bit more hit-or-miss than the levelset in 5 and 6, but the stronger levels are tip top.

i recommend playing the game on professional (solo) or no hope (cooperative). if the game isn’t punishing you, you should probably notch up the difficulty.

the horror in this game should come from the challenge, imo. that’s what makes it work.

RE 6 has been out for like what, 4-5 years now? I’m not gonna go look.

As I think kinda mentioned earlier here, it looked like so much overproduced, watered down actionized endpoint for the franchise, but I’ve felt an obligation to see it through eventually.

Amping up difficulty for the better experience I can dig but I’m not sure if that can override the game’s lacking in other areas overall. Being surprised and off the expectation can be good though @meauxdal I will be sure to share my takes once I get to it.

the beginning of re6 has you coming to in the middle of the street where you have to meander over to some door and quicktime it open and the whole time a helicopter is hosing you with machine gun fire for a sense of urgency but none of the bullets are hitting you cause its a tutorial

the cracked version has working online co-op play

resident evil 6 is good as. the combat is ace and there’s some really interesting setpiece design (that in any other game probably wouldve been cut)

alright, I’ve played RE6 for exactly 12 minutes now and I have so many thoughts that I just need to post about it. this game is some insane actiony bullshit and I love it

it’s completely overproduced AAA style stuff and somehow I don’t mind that

it starts you out in first person view and that’s amazing

Leon gives Helena the Roman handshake where you grab on to the other persons forearm instead of hand and I love that, that’s what I do in real life

gun porn lovers are gonna hate on this game because first Leon points his gun at a helicopter and then a minute later he pulls back the slide to load the gun when he goes to check out a new area. so what, was there no bullet in the chamber when he pulled the gun on the helicopter or did he just expel a perfectly good round? I know it’s just a movie trope to pull back the slide or cock the shotgun but still, it’s always amusing when they do it incorrectly/nonsensically

pulling left trigger to ready and right trigger to shoot is better than that RE4 nonsense where you ready with the trigger and then push a button to shoot. this is how it’s supposed to be

you can pull up the menu to mix herbs and do other inventory stuff and still move around, that’s neat

I love the look of Leon in this game. He looks better than ever. probably because he looks older than ever

the thing that lets you see where you’re going might be a bit much

that said, I immediately needed it after I thought that and in that situation it didn’t even help lol (I had to kill zombies to progress, not actually walk anywhere)

I figured out that you can just kick zombies around with the right trigger. that’s very cool.

a crash bandicoot section happened and the game told me to press left stick + A and I hammered A instead of holding it, making Leon’s sprint animation display for a split second over and over again. it was hilarious and actually didn’t look any worse than the stupid RE4 QTEs where he moves at super speed if you press the button fast enough. I still didn’t fail this section! the QTEs are super easy.

I loved how you had to wiggle the thumb stick like mad to ā€œstabilizeā€ the fucking helicopter. I’m sure that’s how they work in real life! just wiggle that shit!

them landing on a glass ceiling with loads of zombies underneath was very cool.

And that’s where I am! 12 minutes and I’m already enjoying this way more than RE4. I had to actually laugh out loud when the helicopter scraped the train. I was like, what else now? What else are they going to be throwing at me? I hope the game doesn’t lose that sense of wonderment, ever. It’s pretty insane so far and I like it.
