was therea gta-like in the 00s that took place in a totally normal modern city crime setting for like 95% of the game, then right at the end there’s suddenly like a boss fight against a dragon? i’m sure i remember people talking about something like that
Wow you got 22 yin yang for killing the dragon.
wow i had no idea, i only ever played this game in the demo console at the HMV in Norwich so i could drive around my neighborhood in LA when i was feeling homesick during study abroad times
Isn’t weird how Sleeping Dogs was announced as a sequel to this? Like it wasn’t the same devs, no plot connections, but it was True Crime: Streets of Hong Kong in it’s early days.
oh yeah i remember true crime hong kong getting cancelled and squeenix got the rights to the game but not the franchise name
otoh, thanks to SQEX we got one of the better takes on the — even by then — pretty standardized GTA-formula, and the atmo of the last mission (even if it has been more than a decade since playing it) hasn’t been surpassed by the numerous clones since then.
( i also point at this game for getting me into chinese rap, so if you see me plugging VaVa, Sleeping Dogs made me do it!!!)
What if Dragon’s Dogma 2 is… bad?
it doesn’t look great but I would say like easily two thirds of Capcom’s modern classics (thinking especially of RE7 here) have not looked good at all in prerelease media
did that top 10 fav games thread get axed or am i just reeeally bad at searching for it
the recent one is specifically ps2 games
nah it wasn’t that one. it was like all games. i reckon it musta been axed
was it the gamer grids thread?
yes that’s the one i knew it had mildly unsearchable name!
i had to revive it
Someone somewhere in one of the topics asked about which shmup would be a good/casual time, though when i clicked reply, it somehow added the post to the deals-thread and the post I’ve tried to respond to didn’t exist anymore. Ah well, feeling all Boomer-programming-a-VCR again :swoon:
but anyway, here’s the recommendation:
Parodius
That’s only half a j/k answer, because it actually rocks:
Especially the third? (Just checked: nope, the fourth one) has a special place in my heart, Gokujo Parodius.
You can play as a Squid, Penguin, Stickman on a Paperplane, Vic Viper, a Mambo Fish and Twinbee.
Game lets you fly through a cake/cookies-level, a beach/pirate-themed stage, fight a Panda Ballerina, Kaguya and iirc even the big bang?
And the best weapon is a megaphone that lets you shout random stuff, sometimes in best engrish (LOCK ME BABY)
Not a walk in the park, mind you, but there’s always something to laugh, even if you just got killed by it.
Also also, Sam The Eagle shows his true self
I like the third Parodius on Super Famicom if only for the announcer who sounds like he’s trapped inside a tin can in hell.
what’s the best way to play FF4 these days?
I don’t like the PSP version’s graphics, and the Pixel Remaster apparently being easier bothers me (or did they add an option to fix this?). I’m tempted to either go with the GBA version with the sound patch (and deal with some presentational nitpicks), or the SNES version with the “Namingway Edition” patch (and just deal with not being able to select my endgame party).
the DS version is kinda tight imo
