Quick Questions XVI: Answer Time Lore

this is also very specifically reminiscent of Aquatic Ambience to me (it’s from 1989)

edit: here’s another thing i saw got linked that got compared to the DKC soundtrack, but i can definitely hear like… stuff like Treasure games or the Snatcher OST in this. this is more the sort of ambient elevator music lite jazz category lol (it’s also from 1989)

so i have a question

so the streamer Macaw45 who plays a lot of weird/obscure 80’s and 90’s games played this FMV game i wanna say around a year ago that was very wacky and 90’s. it had some sort of game show theming and had one wacky male host and featured several different female player characters, who were sort of like models of different sizes/races who had different attributes. there were different minigames you had to walk through on these different wacky 90’s game show sets, and i think you had to shoot various things that popped up on your screen to get your stats up to unlock better endings? i think it might have been themed in space too, though i’m not sure about it. you moved around in first person, MYST-style also.

kind of kicking myself i didn’t try to make note of the game. i tried to find it from a large a list of FMV games but i couldn’t, and i also couldn’t get a decent archive of things Macaw has streamed… so i don’t know what this one is. but maybe someone else does.

it absolutely is! thank you!

i guess it wasn’t listed under any lists of FMV games i could find because it’s considered an “adult” game. pff, whatever.

I started playing fallout new vegas for the first time. I want to stick to an as-vanilla-as-possible experience but christ I hate how walking around feels in this fucking engine. are they any mods that improve the feeling of movement? is that a bizarre thing to ask for? any other mods that improve the basic game-feel?

I regret to inform you that gamebryo is unsalvageable

i’m in a similar boat with new vegas. i want to like it and i’ve never had the wherewithal to make it out of good springs because most things about the engine just feel gross. it’s hard to commit to a gamebryo modding session when you haven’t encountered anything you like in the original game

I will try to deal with it but I really don’t know if I fundamentally enjoy western role-playing games enough to endure this much suffering

this is why I got back into CRPGs so much more in the Unity/PS4 era when they went back to being isometric, I could never stand the mush that everyone wanted so badly to be good before that

The Witcher 3 may be the worst feeling video game I’ve ever played

ironically Witcher 2 always felt better to me and it was the exception to the rule at the time!

its combat is a bit more mannered in a way that I don’t think ever fully succeeded for a large audience (it’s heavily biased toward making you do crowd control, and your inputs are really animation driven, souls-style, for everything but taking damage, so if you screw up it feels like you’re dying immediately), which is why I think they just softened the whole thing for 3, but it was to their detriment imo

Witcher 2 felt difficult and weighty, but also like you could learn how to manage that in order to be successful. I played like a hundred hours of Witcher 3 and even at the 100 hour mark almost every fight was filled with instances where I would have no clue how I or an enemy landed that hit or how dodge even actually works.

Obviously you haven’t played any Bethesda games in the past 10 years. Which, like, good for you

people thought witcher 2 was hard as fuck when it came out, the multi man fights in the prologue and like the first real boss fight put a lot of people off. Really funny to think about now
