Quick Questions XV: Episode Prompto

incidentally, is persona 5 strikers any good?

everything i have read on it says ā€œit is a musou with some persona elements on topā€, so largely I think that depends on how you feel about musous, as that seems to define how much any given reviewer enjoys it.

i enjoyed it and i don’t like musou games. there’s just enough character action-lite shit going on with the combat to make it feel a little less mindless than a dynasty warriors.

mainly it’s got a nice roadtrip hangout vibe. picking up souvenirs in each place you visit to decorate the RV, it’s cute

is the story good or is just kinda fluff to drive the action?

mostly fluff tbh. it’s nice that they add an actual adult character that has a kid to the team for some variety but you’re definitely mostly hitting the same plot beats from 5 but changed up a little

I want to play an OlliOlli game!

Is there one that is clearly better than the others?

I’ve only played the first; what I gather is that the second game obsoletes it. I’m willing to believe that.

The third is more of its own beast and while I think it’s got a killer look I wonder if it’s got just a hair too much going on for its own good. Someone else might be able to say otherwise, though.

I once played Jak and Daxter as a young person. Should I now bother to play Jak 2 and 3?

2 is neat in that it feels like nothing else, it’s a mid-2000s GTA and tony hawk-like with these friendly floaty platformer physics

very inessential tho imo

I was a Jak2 liker until last year where I got further and further into it and kept going ā€œoh yeah this part suckedā€ and that feeling continued until I made myself stop playing. I like the Pg-13 GTA and how utterly miserable driving across the city is and the grimdark layer on it.

I didn’t have the energy to retry Jak 3 which is like PG-13 Mad Max with lots of racing. Even then I would recommend playing a chunk of 2 first because you go back to the city of 2 while it is at war.

So the answer is eh not really.

Everyone says that 2 is a big improvement over the first but I thought that even with the addition of the manual in OlliOlli 2 they were overall rather similar. They are both great and if you were only ever gonna try one of them then the second is probably the safest bet.

What is the best way to start selling your old games? I am moving, so I think this might be the right time to downsize the collection.

Facebook marketplace has been pretty easy to do for me recently. They seem particularly hungry for Nintendo stuff on there.

Tempting. Is there a thread?

Woops that link doesn’t work but SELLS is the name of the thread

Yeah I may be stupid and interested.

Today I picked up Armored Core 4 for the PS3 from the used game store. Score! But when I booted it up, I discovered that the game can no longer download patches; the server is no longer available. Fuck! I knew digitally distributed patches for console games was a huge preservation risk, but this is the first time I’ve faced it personally. Does anyone know how I can patch this game on a real physical unmodded PS3? Can it even be done?
