Quick Questions XIV: A Question Reasked (Part 1)

The Ultras are not enhanced versions of Sun/Moon, they are sequels, like how Black & White 2 were (but they are an alternate storyline for Sun/Moon instead of a direct sequel)

oh ok, thanks!

Best FPS since 2000 is clearly Heavy Bullets…

…okay that is clearly a lie. I just stan for any game that makes you go pick up your bullets after firing them as you can only hold 6 at a time and also happens to look like this:

By the way, is Far Cry 2 this good?

Well. I hesitated to put it in that list. First of all because I made a big deal of separating out anything that wasn’t a traditional story driven singleplayer campaign and then FC2 has a whole open world thing going on. Second because it provokes very hot & cold reactions in people. I think it’s important as a bridge game between the pure simulationism of Arma or Ghost Recon and the goopy lawnmower sim AAA style of later Far Cry games. It definitely has flaws, but… I think it’s thrilling to play.

Indeed, i forgot to specify that I liked the story driven games (but you guys got it right). It’s nice to see that good old HL2 is still in such short-list.
It’s a bit sadder that there so few recent games on that list (apart from the two Wolfensteins and new Doom), it shows that the genre is stagnating (at list with AAA publishers)…

So, is Modern Warfare 2 better that the 1?

One point I would disagree with Father Torque is they are two parts of a whole or reflections on each other and his commentary resurfacing in a video I went “you do a lot of cool stuff in MW1and2”

I like them both and they are both definitely better than any other CoD or military nonsim shooter that comes afterward BUT if you’re only gonna play one I’d play 2. I really tried to make the list as punchy as possible.

As for the stagnation of story campaigns I think the lesson is slightly different. There’s a black hole decade from mid-00s to mid-10s where all the ones coming out sucked, the new id properties (and Titanfall 2 if people are to be believed) represent something of a comeback.

Thanks. The list is really punchy indeed.
Have you also played Dusk?

What is the best way to rip a DVD?

easiest is probably just downloading handbrake and choosing a quality preset you like the sound of

hmm?

damn, that’s news to me, wonder if it’s a recent thing (been a long time since i had a drive) and an old version might work

edit: just having a quick look it seems like dropping a libdvdcss dll in the install folder circumvents that?

DVD Decrypter or MakeMKV

those are gonna make lossless/direct copies and strip protections/encryptions.

From there, you’ll need handbrake or whatever, to compress it down.

Have not.

All the Bungie Halos
CSGO
I’ve been procrastinating on playing F.E.A.R.
Wolfenstein New Order / New Colossus

Far Cry 2 is very unique and important to me but I hesitate to call it good bc of its many flaws

Halo is Important for various reasons and the master chief collection comes out on PC this week

is Railway Empire any good? It’s on sale for $15 and i’ve been looking for a train building game.

This totally worked, thanks

I’m probably the biggest fan of this game on the forum, and this game is flawed both in narrative and in mechanics but I do think it’s worth playing in 2019.

With every passing year and my increasing sense of my own mortality looming, I’ve very nearly convinced myself to never replay a video game I’ve finished ever again. Far Cry 2 is on the short list of exceptions.

prerelease they had talked far cry 2 up as some sort of yojimbo simulator playing two sides against each other, every member of the two factions being a person you could kill and would have to be replaced with lower ranking member, simulated wild life and forest fires, the main bad guy being just some guy out there you could stumble on, etc, which was all total horseshit, it’s just the now standard badly written ubisoft theme park experience. and it annoyed me how at the time none of the news sites acknowledged this discrepancy, then later there was a what went wrong with far cry 2 gamasutra article or something and suddenly peoples memories returned. there’s not even two sides, it’s you against every other person in the world. and it’s so repetitive. your funneled down canyons towards encampments that immediately go hostile towards you over and over. I hated it. I think if you’re gonna play one of these might as well play one of the newer ones that’s not a series of tunnels and has a little better ai, or just play phantom pain instead.
