Invisible Inc is pretty loose if you have the DLC and you’ve played it enough to clear it imo
but it does present a bit of a wall up to that

whereas I’ve never found much to like in into the breach as that feels way overtuned toward rote variation for me, like it was paper modelled for too long and there’s not enough computer game left in it for a solo gameplay loop to be captivating
duelyst is shutting down soon and I loved duelyst
When did tactics games start trending? Also, when was the last time I fell asleep with a PSP in my face? The answer to the second question is last night.
@Felix do you have a concise list of why you don’t like TO PSP? I feel like I was with you until I picked it back up and now I’m thinking TO might be one of the best games ever made.
I just realized I’ve always conflated Brigandine and Vanguard Bandits as the same game. I guess I can’t look forward to that new Brigandine remake having cool medieval mecha anymore.
I remember liking Kartia back in the day but I don’t actually know how it holds up.
I never got very far into God Wars but while it didn’t seem particularly special from what I’ve played (the main selling point was that every character in the game has access to a unique class) Kadokawa’s previous game was Natrual Doctrine, which is probably something more along the lines of a game that bewilders you with mechanics. So I’m still curious to go back to it to see if it goes anywhere interesting mechanically. Natural Doctrine is only semi-grid based but I think it slots into the tactics genre and is very neat even when it fails.
I am so happy the Vantage Master site is still alive: https://www.falcom.co.jp/vantage/index_e.html
I think the second post ever on this forum was me replying to you saying I would check it out. I still haven’t it! Maybe I shouldn’t just for comedy’s sake.
I really appreciated Into the Breach for the first 5 runs or so, but once I beat all 4 islands on normal or whatever, it started to feel like this to me as well. I can respect it from afar but there’s not enough meat there to justify playing any more than I have.
I’ve started describing myself as a maximalist because of stuff like this though. Like, I prefer FTL to Into the Breach. I just want lots of stuff thank you. Even though FTL is kind of a mess at the end game, I just enjoy how much bizarre shit can happen moment-to-moment.
Into the Breach is this perfect little gem of a game, but what I really want is a pile of bizarre rocks that someone has been collecting since they were 8, ranging from “interesting to an 8 year old” to “sharp enough to cut you” to “wow, this is legitimately beautiful.”
Does this…
Does this metaphor about rocks make sense? I may have lost the plot again sorry
I don’t like FTL because I easily got to the end the second time I played it and then saw the end boss and was like “oh I have to do a specific thing the whole entire game to prepare for this boss” and got bored just thinking about it
The best tactics game is Fallout 1
yeah subset makes very polished medium-sized indies with great interfaces but they’re both overdesigned and overdeterministic
FTL isn’t a tactics game its a choose your own adventure game like king of dragon pass or the board game arabian nights, but not as good. no ducks.
fallout tactics is the best fallout game and people think im being ironic but fallout tactics is SO GOOD
oh yeah I forgot to recommend fallout tactics AND jagged alliance 2 because i always forget computer games are real
i got into jagged alliance 2 because my friend wrote a book on it so i guess some reviews work if they’re at least 100 pages
you mean darius?
oh yeah hes known lol WE ARE FLESHZONE PALS THO
I’ve never actually met him, but I knew elizabeth (from his jojo podcast) pretty well years ago and I’ve been following his work on intentional web communities lately with some bemusement because he’s done such a thorough, widely respectable job with money from eff and mozilla and whoever else to basically wind up recommending exactly what we have here at sb, we’ve corresponded very briefly
seems like a good dude, I don’t actually do a lot of of open tech type work publicly because I prefer my canadian public sector union environment to that level of american prestige and self starting but I figured I’d look him up on my sabbatical next year
he is one of the people i want to post here for sure. we met because he gave me his pass to sneak into a swery talk so i could meet swery like 12 years ago or something wow wow! time. he hangs out when he visits town i like him
anyone know much ifttt
trying to create a ‘get image from every new tweet and post it to dropbox’ flow for retrieving console screenshots but it’s just saving a .html of the actual tweet
Yo I work at Zapier I bet you could do that there. It’s free if you’re doing it less than 100 times a month.
… Not sure if Twitter or Dropbox are premium apps though
Edit: looks like they’re not premium
FTL is choose your own adventures but without the roleplaying. Which, just makes it into a bad strategy game. (of course, I think Arabian Nights has the exact same problem (lack of roleplaying), that’s the biggest part of the SUSD canon that I just Do Not Like)
Arabian Nights has so much looking shit up in a book that I don’t understand why someone would pull that out instead of playing even a mediocre ttrpg
the most i had during arabian nights was everyone being impressed about how i was able to understand the system for events and look things up faster than everyone
also we did RP in my group for arabian nights but it was basically in between turns. the game doesnt have anything that encourages RP in game beyond the setting any game is better. i just want to rag on FTL by saying its worse than arabian nights
Is there a way to search Youtube for “at least this old”? Or is the past lost until The Algorithm deigns to bring it back?
What I do is search youtube through Google. Under “tools” you can filter a search to a specific time period. It doesn’t feel trustworthy at all but you can at least try to restrict videos before and after certain dates.
