Quantum Ungulations (Outer Wilds)

Hot damn, is there a video of this?

it’s unbelievably good, you should give it a shot

ask yourself, would you like a perfect successor to Riven if it had better traversal?

Also a lot easier than Riven IMO, you’re not gonna need a notebook.

It’s kind of like “what if Pilotwings 64 was an adventure game?”

Seriously, it’s amazing. Space flight takes some getting used to because inertia behaves correctly and there’s no friction, so to get “good” at it you need to spend as much time decelerating as you spend accelerating. I would further strongly recommend making use of your shipboard computer to track progress: I watched a guy play blind who refused to use it, and he then wasted a lot of time looking for nonexistent stuff he missed in areas where he couldn’t progress because he forgot that there were other areas he could explore, which then turned out to be the only thing he complained about.

It’s my game of the year but I won’t try to predict what Rudie will like (I can’t even reliably predict what I will like!)

oh…oh i see

The intro was off-putting cuz the aliens are such geeks and the tone is a bit too twee but after a point I started to dig it big time yet when I turned to the game in search of solace after a troubled night this shit happened and now I want my fucking money back.

It seems the early December patch on PS4 (1.0.4) introduced a save corruption issue that is effecting tons of people.

Losing progress in this game is weird because, aside from the note board, the state of the game is the same no matter what save you have. Note board is super important for remembering things though so I sympathize

yeah, don’t be discouraged. you haven’t really lost much except what’s in the ship’s log and that doesn’t really matter that much. you’ll probably end up getting a lot of it back. you can literally resume progress on a fresh save though. the game world state literally never changes.

Well, no. There is ONE change, but it’s purely UI, and it happens when you ask about a particular topic which only appears while talking with Gabbro and you have died since your first conversation with them.

More changes than that. Ending spoilers: some of the ending’s specifics depend on how many travelers (including Solanum) you’ve found. So to get the absolute best ending you do need to visit them all before your final loop

!!!

I tried to do a run where I met none of the travelers and was underwhelmed that the ending was unchanged

I forgot about how dialog options can open up though I’d say those are fairly incidental.

Still an ending spoiler: huh, normally the final screen of the game should change depending on how many travelers you got, because the more elaborate the campfire music is, the more full-featured the next universe becomes.

This was like a day after the game came out so it was before this was patched in

I tried giving this another shot but I can’t remember how I unlocked things like all the different scanner frequencies or whatever and those seem pretty important. It’s very hard for me to keep track of things without the rumor log and I do not remember a single word of text I’ve read so far and I’m still not even sure what the ultimate goal of the game is so I’m just going to wait until they fix this.

you have all the scanner frequencies from the outset. just cycle left and right with the dpad.

it’s probably the one thing the game doesn’t do a great job explaining.
