Do you mean five albums each of a different genre, or do you mean groups of five albums belonging to different genres
the former lol
Aphex Twin, Selected Ambient Works 85-92, “Ptolemy”
Nujabes, Modal Soul, “Eclipse”
Death Grips, The Money Store, “Hacker”
DJ Shadow, Endtroducing, “Number Song”
Falconer, Falconer, “Heresy in Disguise”
My music taste is pretty pedestrian so this is off the top of my head based on what I’ve been listening to lately
Hip-Hop Aesop Rock, None Shall Pass
Metalcore Dance Gavin Dance, Downtown Battle Mountain II
Prog Protest the Hero, Volition
Thrash Metal Megadeth, Youthanasia
Boy Band *NSYNC, No Strings Attached
Haven’t listened to those last two albums in a very long time but they still have strong memories also if Bye Bye Bye wasn’t the best thing to come out of the boyband era of pop music I don’t know what is
Okay maybe I like It’s Gonna Be Me slightly more? But it’s still *NSYNC and still off of the same album so maybe it’s just that No Strings Attached was peak boy band
Oh god I can’t even respond to this thread the dadcore would be too strong
Just do it anyway, everything always needs a little more dad
this is a fun idea and i’ll post once i can think of more than like two genres i current,y engage with
i only listen to rap and country sorry
*Neko Case - Fox Confessor Brings the Flood (alt country)
*My Bloody Valentine - Loveless (shoegaze/noiserock/dreampop)
*Sleater-Kinney - Dig Me Out (punk)
*Janelle Monae - The Electric Lady (neo soul/R&B)
*Tally Hall - Marvin’s Marvelous Mechanical Museum (indie rock)
*honorable mention: Small Black S/T EP (chillwave), but my favorite song on it is a B-side cover by Washed Out:
John Coltrane - Ole Coltrane
“Ole”
Scientist - Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires
“Your Teeth In My Neck”
The Spits -s/t (3rd album)
“Witch Hunt”
Public Enemy - It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back
“Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos”
Johnny Cash - At Folsom Prison
“Folsom Prison Blues”
I don’t know how genres work so here are the 5 most diffferentest favorite albums I have
Silversun Pickups - Carnavas
Little Lover’s So Polite
Shnabubula - NES Jams
Underwater
Neil Cicierega - Spirit Phone
Touch-Tone Telephone
Matt Berry - The Small Hours
Seasons on Fire
MF Doom - Operation: Doomsday
Red and Gold
i have twice now started a post where i post 5 young thug songs from 5 different mixtapes/albums but have deleted it both times for fear of it being taken as mean or sarcastic. It would have been 500% earnest I promise.
Soul: Terry Callier - I Just Can’t Help Myself
Very Sensitive and Arty Synthpop: Thomas Dolby - The Flat Earth
Extremely Creepy and Evocative IDM: Boards of Canada - Geogaddi
4th World Ambient: Midori Takada - Through the Looking Glass
I Don’t Know What This Is: Nero’s Day at Disneyland - Attention Shoppers
bp for the boc
The Beach Boys, Smiley Smile, ‘Vegetables.’
Slint, Spiderland, ‘Washer.’
Mark Hollis, ‘The Daily Planet.’
Bill Evans Trio, Sunday at the Village Vanguard, ‘Jade Visions.’
Kate Bush, Aerial, ‘A Coral Room.’
Aerial is such an amazing album. The whole “Sky of Honey” suite blows my mind, the way it portrays the cosmic beauty you can find in everyday life.
Edit: This is the best thing ever written about that album, really opened my eyes: http://k-punk.abstractdynamics.org/archives/006862.html
Yes! I would’ve put the suite as my favourite ‘track’ but the Rolf Harris cameo is no longer tolerable.
Excellent article as well.
