post your favorite 8x8 or 8x16 px monospace font

I like a lot of what’s happening in the FF drop shadow but the colors/contrast are all wrong and some letters like ‘m’ and ‘w’ get real muddy. I don’t find the original font all that attractive, to be honest; the white on blue gives it a stripped-raw look.

Reminds me of implementing this vector font rendering and blowing out the parameters:
http://www.valvesoftware.com/publications/2007/SIGGRAPH2007_AlphaTestedMagnification.pdf (by the way there’s a Unity plugin of this)

kirby’s adventure (the ability help font) has hella personality, look at that “g” and “y.” really good for establishing tone

pokemon gen 1 has too many thin lines and 45-degree angles. not great

the Multiboot Menu is probably as close as you can get to a mr saturn font at that size

i’m trying to decide which of the fonts that include lower case letters is the “best” (specifically for rpg menus and dialogue windows) and i guess it comes down to how much stylization i want to go for. mother 1’s looks really oddly kerned in-game, but Willow is a little too on-the-nose-fantasy. the IBM PC font is solid but i don’t want people having mental associations with PC BIOS

i-is the real answer here Big Bird’s Hide and Speak

i’m going to make a sesame street rpg

Secret of Mana had a really nice monospace font but a really ugly dialogue window :s

progress? maybe?

i thought stealth bubble letters were a neat idea at the time but a palette swap might honestly be more appropriate. also not sure how i feel about how hacker-y this came out.

(unfortunately i dont think our text in G-dungeon qualifies ;_; )

Oh good, this page still exists:
