post character designs u like itt

i dont know much about this stuff but i like looking at them. all of the ones in this post are from anime.

Hilda in Hols, Prince of the Sun - Yasuji Mori

comparing with the many rejected hilda designs really clarified why Mori’s final one (center) was necessary for such an emotionally distant character

Ojamajo Doremi - Yoshihiko Umakoshi… so many lol. tbh im more impressed by how many there are while being individually concisely characterized + perfectly suited to the needs of a long-running kid’s cartoon (easy to move funny and easy for kids to draw) but if i had to pick favs:

Nobuko

Reika

Kaori

Kayoko

Hana s4

missing a few like doremi s1-2 and hazuki s3-4 but currently not arsed to find more screencaps

Sachi in Labyrinth Labyrinthos - Atsuko Fukushima

The clown in Labyrinth Labyrinthos - Atsuko Fukushima

Kurenai Sanshiro - idk who

Warusa the 7th in Fight Da!! Pyuta - idk who

Akari Kamigishi in To Heart - Tooru Minazuki + Yuriko Chiba

mostly in love with the way Chiba does eyes.

Yasako in Dennou Coil - Mitsuo Iso + Takeshi Honda

sailor suit is my fav of her outfits because it’s cute and the fabric folds are super satisfying to watch in-show. also i recently found out that the same voice actress did Miu in strawberry marshmallow and it’s fucking with me

might add more

now there’s a fine thing

these boys designed and manufactured 4 sets, out of pilfered ploughs and beaten to shape in bush forges. terrified the police sent to murder them when they shot a man 5 times and he’d not even flinch let alone die

i love Moonlight Mask… his sunglasses add so much

went through some doll magazines looking for fun character designs a while back, i liked this one, the brand i believe is called a Tommy doll

the quarkmen / devilmen from the legend of valkyrie series, with the little eyes painted on their hoods

the old rubberwear site AtomAge has digitised scans of their issues from the 70s which have some tokusatsu looking outfits i like a lot.

basically anything where someone’s in both a mask and a suit, like Santo’s snazzy turtleneck outfits

No surprises here with Mr. Gomo:

Getting bullied:

Running for his life:

Havin a smoke with his pal:

Witnessing some sort of injustice take place:

At some point I felt I had to doodle the guy for myself:

And then animate him:

I’ve never seen the show this guy is from but I always loved how he dresses like a member of UTFO

That billowy underboob shirt has triggered some deep memory of a 70s playboy pictorial
