It’s time folks. Here is my list. Don’t judge me if there are duplicates or I get the name wrong considering this is a text-file I’ve been adding to for 9 months and only copy and pasted it to format it on the computer. I surprised myself by some of these placements. The only major change is I dumped PC Genjin down lower because let’s face it that game is in fact not Mario or Sonic and Legendary Axe is a better game in just about every way, and some of the Namco arcade ports are actually fun.

I finished Madou Monogatari. It’s fine although had some annoying parts – I guess that’s the last PC Engine RPG for me. There were some I didn’t play because they were remakes or ports of games I had already done.
I guess my Top 5 would be:

when i first found out the soundtrack was done by Sakamoto a few years back, i’d become mildly obsessed with the idea of eventually playing this game, one day.
i got one of these and it’s apparently on its way to me. i think it’s probably the most superfluous Analogue purchase i’ve made, but realistically, i always did want to start collecting some hucards, and i already own several Super CD games from way back, when my only way to play them was with the MagicEngine emulator (which i actually paid for lol). kind of a shame that the Everdrive doesn’t seem to work with this because of its shape, but i guess that will be a moot point once they jailbreak this thing.

I went back to Bonk 3 and the solution to my stuckness was don’t jump against the silver circle that implies a path but to the left of the circle implying the circle is a manhole cover. I died at the end of Stage 3, and got sent back to the beginning and turned it off.

Last year, when I was deep in the Engine, I mean, deeeeep, I started keeping a spreadsheet of games that shared some DNA with PC Engine staff/series/studios. Looking at credits for connections became compulsive. I did it every day for months. I would put on an album or podcast and just zone out while I catalogued over 900 entries. I did it partly because it was thoughtless work. The other part was the games I found often did not seem normal. They felt made up, from an alternate dimension of C-Grade productions. Of course, there are still some big hits mixed in, but the list of games is simply too bizarre to keep to myself.
I am not going to share that full spreadsheet. It’s not pretty! But I will share a short list of 100 games that I consider to be very PC Engine. I have done this through science.
