The comment said it was a Frog Design concept.

“Macbook Lifestyle” (?) config with/of the “Bashful” tablet from 1983, cool.

I look up these things every couple years on eBay to make sure they still cost a zillion dollars

So the rescue ViewSonic was popping LOUDLY at a minute or so interval with a crazy screen wiggle. I read this can happen if dust causes the high voltage bits to arc. It will eventually just blow up all the dust or you can clean it yourself. So I left it off for a few weeks and last night I pulled the cover off and hit it with the air duster.

The big shield was held in by about 8 screws

Rusty!

For something that got rained in and was found sideways on a sand pile its pretty clean inside.

How many scifi movie things were inspired by people opening up TVs? You can see water rust spatter on the sides of the cage at the end of the tube. I have no idea what I’m doing so I just blasted everything.

After cleaning. New discoloration in the bottom left. Probably from tipping it over.

old discoloration in the top right.

None of the discoloration is a fixed color its just a lightened or inverted color spot. Degauss lessens it very slightly and temporarily. I am trying to just enjoy it as natural patina.

should be able to adjust via Purity settings in the OSD

my last CRT computer monitor was a ViewSonic that made a shotgun noise like that

it was stable for two years and then another earsplitting bang and it was dead forever

so it did! Thanks. I was unaware of this setting existing prior to using it.
The screen looks pretty good all over now.

My dad knew some guys at Rice University in the 70’s who used to buy an LP and record it to reel-to-reel tape then sleeve it and never play it from the record player again. The quality was based on tape speed? Like 7.5 vs. 15 inches per second? or something like that. I’m thinking of FLAC and OGG nerds duking it out 30 years later.

Yes, def; but also those Sonys pictured above are broadcast Type-C video tape decks.

Also these guys will be happy to relieve any feller of his life’s savings in his journey down the rabbit hole of 15ips audio reel collecting.
