actually bummed about the island sanctuary because while you can clone one thing in your inventory 90 times to spam it on the island, PLACING FURNITURE ON YOUR ISLAND DOES NOT ACTUALLY REMOVE IT FROM YOUR INVENTORY AND FREE THE SLOT (like with placing home furniture) REMOVING LIKE 99 PERCENT OF MY EXCITEMENT ABOUT THIS FEATURE

the best part is every single one of these makes a creaking sound, like a wooden big ass boat swaying in the water. like my JOINTS
i spent like six hours today trying to make a capcom ID so i could try out the single player mode in sf6 but THE SITE KEPT ERRORING ME ON THE LAST STEP so i took it out on ffxiv pvp and i now have this seasons mount and the bitchiest fucking portrait ever
anyway i got sf6 working but i have no energy. excited to fight in streets tomorrow AND TALK ABOUT IT IN A DIFFERENT THREAD
aether did a charity MEGA HUNT TRAIN for the trevor project and raised over 20k. hunt trains are just big groups of people killing tough marks one after another. marks pop up every 6 hours, so a group scouts them, marks all the ones for an expansion and then a conductor screams in shout chat where everyone should go, then everyone goes together and kills marks and shares the spoils. its basically my favorite thing to do in the game because it takes NO SKILL and you can make LOTS OF GIL and its CHATTY.
also if you kill an outrageous number of hunt marks you get a cool tiger mount

MEGA HUNT PRIDE TRAIN. there are eight worlds and each one was assigned a different color, so everyone would pick a mount and outfit to match that worlds colors.the whole thing took about four and a half hours but im sick and only caught the last three worlds. it was still super fun and the train finale was on FAERIE our HOME TURF because WE’RE THE GAYEST and being reminded of that always makes me happy
red was pretty divisive, lots of people getting on orange mounts, now i understand why p3 savage was so hard. but people were really into making ‘RED MOONS’ i guess to go against the SUPERNOVA SUNS we were making on the last server

i also had glams for every server i hunted on, and minions but i MOSTLY didnt need to prep cuz OF COURSE I HAVE A GLAM PLATE FOR EVERY FUCKIGN COLOR OF THE RAINBOW but heres my red glam for the red train, because im once again back to personal spoils mode and want to show off my formal morbol WHOS ALSO RED
I’m getting pretty far into Endwalker. I’m not as into this expansion’s story as I was with Shadowbringers, but it’s still pretty good. Shadowbringers was the GOAT because going full isekai meant it could largely get away from all the fantasy UN politicking that inexplicably makes up a HUGE percentage of FFXIV’s plot. I mean, like, I love this game and it overall has a great story, but now and then it goes full neoliberal and suddenly feels like one of those airport novels high-level Democrats write after leaving office. There’s some of that in Endwalker but at least it’s not the ARR postgame or Stormblood.
I’m starting to get curious about where this story is going next. They don’t totally overdo it, but Endwalker has had several moments where the scions keep Marvel quipping at each other in a kind of annoying way. I mean, I guess they’ve earned a little soy banter after this many years but I’d like to see them wipe the slate clean and go in a new direction to keep things fresh. But I dunno where this is going… I’ve heard Endwalker was proclaimed to be the end of this story but I haven’t finished it yet so I don’t know where they’re gonna leave things. I’m really curious though!
Endwalker’s the end of the arc but in the denouement one character starts naming a bunch of specific places we could go to so i reckon they’ve kept the door wide open to further expansions
I heard that one of people’s favorite FFXI’s expansions was just you get off a boat on an island and a bunch of pirates steal your shit, and you have to get back at those pirates, and that was the whole expansion. As satisfying as it was to see Shadowbringers through Endwalker stick the landing on a decade of storytelling I fully trust this team to be able to tell a new good story that’s not resting on that kind of framework.

I remember partaking in the original launch on this very forum! There was a 2 or 3-day open beta where you could level each class/job up to 20, and I managed to get like seven of them to 20 before it ended. Then, the head start happened on a Saturday at midnightish, which also happened to be my very first day going back to college. That was a busy weekend.
I met a few folks in-game that I became friends with. The one guy that I wanted to catch up/reminisce with is impossible to look up, because he shares his name with a now-famously unhinged comic artist. And, so, I was going to try to get in touch with him by looking up his sister, whom I also met in-game and dated for a few months. Turns out, she passed away a few weeks ago, which was a slightly surreal discovery. We didn’t part on the best terms (the long distance thing was never gonna work out), but I wouldn’t have wished any ill will towards her.
So I decided to revisit the game alone! I hadn’t played it since 2013, except for a very brief stint before Endwalker came out; that revisit was cut short as whatever Endwalker pre-patch dropped like three days after I started, the queues instantly shot up to over an hour long with no immediate relief in sight due to pandemic hardware supply issues, and I didn’t have that kind of patience. So here I am again, partaking in the 10th anniversary! I am giving this more nostalgic attention than the recently-passed 20th anniversary of Star Wars Galaxies, which was a painful realization. My God, I have to finish writing about that.
This game sure has great music. I’m thankfully past that painfully-dry run of quests between ARR and Heavensward, and am now neck-deep in the HW plotline. I’m a level 57 monk! The second I hit 60, I’m going to become a dancer. I don’t even know what that means! I lost my original 50 lalafell Bard to time, but I see people playing music in town nowadays which I guess is a thing you can do so eventually I’ll have to become a Bard so I can bust out Doom E1M1 at random times just like I did back in Lord of the Rings Online.
BONUS ROUND: I was able to find a bunch of old screenshots from back in the open beta/headstart era.
That was where I ended up by the end of the open beta! Looks like I was right about getting seven 20s.
I wonder if this survived until today.
